Why I Hate Las Vegas
For years everyone told me I should go to Las Vegas, even my mother (she thought I'd like the neon signs). Two years ago I went, and I don't intend to return. The Strip is like a four-mile-long bar full of smoking, drunk, obnoxious idiots. Among the most irritating people are the guys passing out cards for escort services. They get in your face constantly, especially if you're a man walking alone. Every ten feet there was another guy snapping a card at me, his arm reaching across my path. I am a purposeful walker, and at first I enjoyed simply bulldozing their arms out of my way. But after an hour of that, it was all I could do to restrain myself from punching them. Repeatedly. Until the Strip ran red with the bl... Oh, never mind.
The Chicago Tribune has a story online that portrays their tale as the struggle of immigrants. While I am sympathetic to those who come here to do the dirty or back-breaking jobs we don't want to do ourselves for lousy pay, I can't muster any support for the card snappers. Fruit pickers and Wal-Mart janitors serve an important role in maintaining our spoiled American lifestyle, but I can't say the same for these guys.
The article says the ACLU has defended them in the name of free speech. That's fine, but there should be stricter laws governing their behavior. I don't deny escort services the right to advertise, but the card flickers are just annoying. What amazes me is that they actually attract enough clients to earn their admittedly meager pay. I mean, I know why the business attracts customers, but I don't see why anyone would hire the escorts advertised in this intrusive way when there are many more to choose from in the free ad papers (Vegas has hundreds of newspaper boxes full of them) or even the phonebook. Is hiring an escort really such an impulse purchase that people don't think of it unless it is literally shoved in their faces?
I was on my way to see Celine Dion at Caesar's Palace or maybe the water show at the Bellagio, but then this kid jumped in my face and snapped a card at me. I thought, heck, I'd just blow this wad of dough in the casino anyway, so why not get an escort instead? Thanks, kid. I never would have considered this entertainment option without your helpful input. You just made my night!
I wouldn't open a checking account at a bank where someone stood outside and snapped business cards in my face. I also wouldn't support a business responsible for so much litter in the street. But then again, somebody is making it worthwhile for e-mail spammers to continue filling my inbox with offers for mortgages, pharmaceuticals, wild teens, and body part enhancement products. Maybe the problem isn't the card flickers. It's the idiot consumers who answer their call.

I live in
Las Vegas(I've been here 7 years). I can tell you, it does
indeed suck. I can't wait until I have enough money for a house in
Yorba Linda, CA.
I moved
here from Nebraska, not by choice, my husband is stationed at Nellis
AFB now.
We thought intially it would great. A young couple, no kids, in the town that never stops. Awesome,
After two years here I'm done. Communities are anchored by casino's and nothing else. Hospitals and the education systems are leagues behind the population growth, which increases something like 5000 people every month.
I find myself traveling at every opportunity and begging my friends to let me visit, just to get a break from this hell hole.
Everything is transiante, nobody stays in Vegas, so it feels like the nations dumping ground for broken dreams and shattered intentions. Investers from California come in buses and snatch up new homes, even offering to buy complete subdivisions. Making a 1400sq ft home sell for 250K which is absurd.
And did I mention there is no real entertainment. There is a one a month art tour called First Friday's and NO community theatre. Everything is dumbed down strip shows, I mean shows on "the strip".
*Sigh* We have another two years here. Wish me luck.

I feel ya!I
moved here from New Orleans after Katrina with an open mind
& realistic (not high) hopes.Well 4 months have gone by & I
have spent them trying to escape as well.Constantly traveling home
& to visit other hurricane scattered friends on the west coast, the
mere thought of returning to Las Vegas after a trip makes me vomit. It
is a cultureless suburban wasteland. And I look forward to the day the
town runs out of water & the people are forced to face the real
world with everyone else.
I know what
you mean when you say you feel like vomiting when you have
to return. I feel that way everytime I visit somewhere else and have to
come back here. Even on planes I can always tell when we hit Vegas
airspace without looking. I get that sick, heavy feeling and it feels
like someone is pouring the most intense rage all over me. Fortunately,
I don't have to be here much longer. I can't wait to put this place and
everything in it far behind me.
I just got
back to Tampa Bay from Vegas late late Friday night. I am a
person who loves to plan and think about vacation for months if not
years. I had this trip planned for over a year and was looking forward
to a new place. We first flew into LA for a few days of sight seeing
and family. We then drove over to Vegas which was the best part of the
entire vacation. We stayed @ TI where we met up with the rest of my
family and my wife's mother. I knew almost as soon as I got there that
I was going to hate it. I was right and after about 12 hours of being
there told my wife my desire to go home or jump in front of a bus. The
whole place is a over kill of sex and gambling! Hey, I live in Tampa
which is the capital of strip clubs and I enjoy the hell out of them
but Vegas was just too much of everything! I did go to downtown Vegas
and the Hoover Dam which I did enjoy very much. My wife thought I was
crazy that I didn't have a good time but it's just not for me. I'll
take a cruise of a beach and water any day over that mess of a city!
I finally
returned to this page to read the comments after posting mine. I'm the
above Nellis AFB wife.
Man, do I feel 10 times better after reading you'alls posts.
My annoyance with Las Vegas is in Full Hatred mode. I'm with you all. It takes hours to get anywhere in this town--the traffic is insane and this place isn't even that big!! I have to pack a lunch if I'm going across town.
Nothing works right in this town. Try calling to schedule a simple doctors appt. Insanity! They put you on hold the minute you call, then they get back ask you what you need, then put you on hold again, then they return and answer the phone, "Blah...Blah...office, how can I help you?" #*&#&$ You were just helping me!! "Oh, oops, what did you need again."
At this point, the seas are parting and the sky is raining frogs, cause you've just witnesses the fall of mankind.
I'm doing whatever is neccessary to get the hell out of hell. Some friend of mine live in Chi-town and have plenty of space, so for a low rent they offered to have me live with them. Especially while my hubby is in Iraq.
Take care everyone. And thats to the host for giving us a small place to vent!! Your the best.

I'm happy
to oblige, though I never thought this blog entry would turn
into the Internet's unofficial Las Vegas complaint site!
I think you'll like it here in Chicago. We have the culture and community that Vegas lacks. Come soon because summer here is the best.
Good luck, and best wishes for a safe return for your husband.

I have
re-written this comment several times in an attempt to express
the deep feeling of discust that I feel towards Las Vegas. There is no
way that I can do so and keep this post short. Nothing here exists for
a purpose other than to exploit all that can be exploited for profit. I
can't wait to go home.
I also
moved here from Nebraska (against my better judgement) when my
husband got a new job. It's been six months now, and I find Las Vegas
to be without any culture, class, or sophistication. The absence of
higher arts amazes me. I've lost brain cells by seeing shows on the
Strip.
I moved
here from CA by choice. The warmer climate is better for my
aching joints, and I am tired of not being able to afford a house in CA
despite making twice the average income in CA. Luckily my work goes
with me as I work from my home office in a brand new home I bought on a
golf course. With the money I saved, I bought a new car too so I can
look good going up the hill to my new home.
But that is where the perks end. If I want to go to the movies, the three nearest movie theaters are located in Casinos. I smoke, but recently I had to excuse myself from a poker tournament because the smoke was overwhelming. This, despite the fact that we were supposedly playing in a non-smoking area. I went to the strip once, and I too wanted to break the limbs of those sex ad pushers, and got tired of being propositioned by she-males and hookers alike. I like organic foods, and hate that there are only two such places I can go to, both requiring a planned field trip because it takes nearly an hour to get to the other side of town. I tried going to the casinos late in the evening and met up with locals who all told me their broken dreams stories while feeding the BJ or Pai Gow table more of their rent money. I looked at AOL City Search to find a decent Pizza and Hamburger and the City voted Pizza Hut and In N Out as their favs...wow. Culture? This place is the anti-culture, substituting the iridescent glow of neon for the color and couture that culture could bring.
Luckily I have a back up plan in place. Living on a golf course, I can reasonably expect to turn a profit in a couple of years in a market that really is dealing more with surplus at this point. As Nevada ranks dead last in Education (HS Grads going on to earn College Degrees), I do not want my future children to be here. This is definitely a transitional center for single people. Get in, get your jollies, and leave it behind you. It seems like everyone who is a permanent resident here has a dream about leaving this place, so why I should I be different.
Funny that Chi-Town was mentioned, because that is my contingency plan. Once I build enough equity to qualify for a "nice" home in Chi-Town, I am there....cool jazz, great hot dogs, stuffed pizzas, smokin ribs, professional sports teams, and actual seasons during the year....yeah, that sounds really good right now.

Yeah i
lived in Vegas for a couple of years not really by choice it was
either get kicked out of my parents house or go work with my
grandparents in vegas (i chose vegas) It is one of the most corrupt,
dirty, nasy citys that i have ever been in. Every time you read the Las
Vegas Review Journal theres a local figure head getting head from a
stripper so a strip club can keep its license a little longer, so
corrupt so dirty. Not to mention the weather you have fall and summer
thats it, and no humidity to speak of. You walk outside and you can
acually feel your skin drying in place. On top of that the people that
live there either are extremly rude and dont give a damn about anyone
but themselves or cry about there wasted life. Ill tell you one thing i
will never date a Las Vegas girl again, they all seem to care about
nothing more then themselves and whats best for them. Atleast i can say
that i moved back to California a few years ago. I go back to visit but
only to vist and i leave as soon as i cant take it anymore. (I enjoyed
reading everyones post and i know exactly how you all feel, and dont
worry you will get out of that hell hole some day).
We moved
here 14 yrs. ago as hubby got a job offer and couldn't find
any jobs elsewhere so we took it. I thought it would be temporary until
we could find something else. Well husband seems to like it here and
doesn't even try to get out and we've already had our family and
they're almost raised up here, they like it too. I'm the only one who
thinks there is no culture, no seasons except summer and the fall isn't
even pretty, just a cooler version of summer. Now we've bought a new
house that cost us almost our souls. I think we're staying all our
lives here, I'll just have to trust God for the afterlife to get out of
this pit.
What I hate
most is the "What happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas" crap...
My spouse is a Vegas addict, and just cant see it, or just doesn't
care? My spouse will often come up with crap like "Oh I forgot to tell
you, Im going to Vegas in the morning. What the hell is that all about,
wait, I don't really want to know.
I really am
torn by reading these comments. Many years ago, after my
dad died, Mom moved from Long Island to Vegas. I really needed to be
near the only person in the world that I really loved. So I followed
her. I was 19.
I was the consummate soft Easter Bunny type and got a protracted and hellish indoctrination to casino work and ethics. But I was also persistent enough to get a workable degree from UNLV. It took awhile. We were poor. And everything seemed to be hard there. From the water, on down to the people. Dreams were shattered, but one still lived. I would go back home one day.
With my Mom having passed away years back, and myself never having found a mate among the crap dealers, when I inherited part of my uncle's Long Island home ,I lingered a bit, then returned. I cried for happiness at the sights, the smells and the friendly people. All evoked warm childhood memories. But my cousin, with whom I'd have to share the home, disliked me, and still does. Just for having lived in Vegas, or for getting half the house. Not sure.
This month, 3 years into being on Long Island, 'it's not Vegas'. There's soot, spiders, leaves, weeds, ice crusted windshields, snowbanks, no mechanics that really know how to fix a transmission and garbagemen who don't pick up grass clippings. And my cousin gets territorial and grumpy. But there are also Christmas trees, Sunday church an dinners, Halloween kids and picking peaches and the beautiful seasons! And rain. And more friends than I made in all my years in Vegas. And I tend to laugh at the same things they do.
I'm slowly become a human being again. I don't know how to explain it.
This week I'm getting ownership in a Vegas house that a realtor friend of mine was selling at an excellent price. It was only supposed to be for a rental. An investment. But My cousin was Mr. Grump with me today, so I toyed with the idea of actually moving back to Vegas. I even called one of my old workplaces there. They'd hire me in a minute. But something kept gnawing at me.
I typed in 'I hate Las Vegas' to search the web to see if anyone else might have had the same thoughts and feelings I had had and still have about the city, and your site came up. Everything I've read here seems like it came from my lips hundreds, perhaps thousands of times when I was in Vegas. Like a bad mantra. Thankyou for making me remember. I'll stick with Long Island and my doynker cousin.

I find Las
Vegas complete lack of culture and taste. When somebody
handed me a "rent-a-girl" flyer to me while my mother was walking 5
yards behind (even though at that time I was a single guy) I began to
have this disgusting feeling. It was not aim toward the person who is
handing out the flyers (he is just doing a job), it was more toward the
general atmosphere. At that moment, I wish me and my mother were in
Edinburgh Scotland. So you ask, why am I there? It was a group vacation
with some of my parents' friends. I never been there. Whether I will go
back, will depend on the situation.

I hate
this place. I can't really get a job with decent pay here unless
I'm 21+(I'm 18). The public transportation here sucks. The nearest bus
stop next to me is about 2hrs away(on foot). Bless the military for
accepting me in because I am soon getting the hell outta here!
I agree
with all the comments. Las Vegas is an unfriendly city. The
saying "its not what you know, it is who you know" rings real loud for
me. My first job in Las Vegas was a 5 star hotel on the strip. I was
hired on the spot at a job fair. Little did I know that when I wrote a
letter to Employee Relations because of how my schedule was "not
handled" I ruffled some feathers. I didn't quite understand the
politics in this city. I am a former government employee and what I did
seem completely reasonable and within my rights. Long story short,
evertime I turned around a letter for unsatisfactory performance was
going in my file. I am 55 years old and have worked my entire life and
have never been fired from my employment. Well, it took coming to Vegas
to do that. What's more, my boss gave me a hug when she fired me.
I'am
orginally from Albuquerque NM, I've Lived in Las Vegas for 5
Years. I can honestly say THANK GOD FOR THIS POST. This goes out to
anyone who is thinking of moving here. Don't Do it !!!!, I swear it
will be the biggest mistake of your life. I moved to Las vegas with a
little bit of innocence in me, well that's gone. I've never seen a
place so materialistic, corrupt, selfish, and political. I'll put it this
way when you first move here, your a sheep with innocence. Unknowing of
all the wolves, and most importantly, wolves in sheeps clothing. You
can't trust a soul here. I agree with there being no culture, and
people being rude. This people worship money that's all there care
about, they have no morals. You truely know your living in hell when
the city of Las Vegas passed a law making it illegal to feed homeless.
You can actually go to jail for that. To all the people that say oh
it's all preception bullshit this is reality. In my option vegas eats
your soul, I'll be out of this shithole hopefully by June, just when
it's about to get hot.
I just got
back from a family vacation in las vegas for christmas. we
went for nearly 2 weeks as i have a brother in a wheel chair and we are
from ~London, so it was really for him as the wheel chair facilities
are great. I have never hated a place so much in all my life. It is
like the worst of humanity in one place: all plus sized velour
tracksuit wearing starbucks guzzlings faux hedonists walking around
thinking they are free beacuse they can drink a cocktail on the strip
adn play a slot. The buffets were the best. It was like that scene in
the animated movie Spirited Away where the greedy parents turn in to
pigs as they stuff their faces. The whole place made me ill. I felt
like i was trapped at an airport and my flight had been cancelled. I
will never go back and be near such greedy, phony, seedy gross people.
Anyone who thinks Vegas is like in the movies etc will be very much
mistaken. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas- God forbid it pollutes
the rest of the world.
This town
has turned me into a shut in and have only lived here for
three years. The local bars are all the same and all suck. Nobody is
talking or trying to meet new people because they are staring at the
glow of the video poker machines. I try to avoid contact with the
people of Vegas because there is no doubt that the majority of people
in this town are self-absorbed. For anyone thinking of moving here for
excitement or to try something new, DON'T DO IT! The excitement lasts
about six months before you realize how much this city is worth.
I have a
warning for people thinking about going into the gaming
industry. Don't move to Vegas! I know that sounds strange but this town
sucks and will suck you in. You will make good money living in one of
the worst cities in America. It is very tough to leave once you have
moved here.
WOW! There
are others who think like I do. I went to Vegas in the
1980's when I was 20 something and thought it was awesome, probably
because I could win $100 or more on slots everytime I turned around.
Then I took my husband in 1999. It wasn't the same, and I didnt' really
care to go back anymore. "Seen it - done it". Unfortunately my husband
thought differently and now he's one of those people who "Love Las
Vegas". I have no clue why! We went again last year and it was all I
could do to leave my hotel room. I was so depressed! Everything looks
the freaking same. Neon this neon that. Everyone is like zombies
walking around oohing and ahhing at the same crap at every turn. And
taking pictures of it too, mind you! What for?! The only good thing
about Vegas is the Cirque productions. Thats it. Period. I get bored
with Vegas in less than a day. It's so freaking un-natural. I'm glad
I"m not the only one who feels this way about "Sin City" (and other
stupid names it is called). Unfortunately, the spouse wants to go back
again "real soon". God help me!!!!!!! Then I get bitched at for being a
party pooper because No... I don't want to walk another mile and see
yet another neon sign and No.. I don't want to walk into yet another
casino and ooh and ahh over all the crap in it. Because IT ALL LOOKS
THE SAME TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not
going to read all of the comments, but I will say Las Vegas sucks major
ass!
I was raised in Las Vegas, and it was a Conservative, sleepy desert town. But now . . .
Firstly, the damn Mexicans come in with the damn Californians and turned our wonderfully low tax haven into one of the highest taxed regions in the US! Why? Because they're Marxists who think they can spend, spend, spend without a consequence in the world. Hey, that money's gotta come from somewhere. Do they tax the casinos? Nope, they tax the people.
Secondly, the desert. As a child, I played in the desert with all of the other neighborhood children. You could get anywhere between Sunset Road and Cheyenne Avenue within ten minute drive. A mountain bike was a must, as you could ride it over anywhere. And this also leads into it being a small, midwest town. We all went to same malls, same churches, same movie theaters. We all knew each other. Also, our TV stations were heavily pro-Las Vegas. Today, it's all the same on TV. The desert is gone, too. Turned into this suburb of Los Angeles.
Thirdly, I'll just rant from here.
How could a sleepy desert town that the casinos took care of become so terrible? In a recent episode of CSI, the CSIs bashed how Las Vegas has become. So do I. I love Las Vegas, like the way a person loves his siblings or a wife, or a pet, whatever. I need Las Vegas to survice. Until one day, I woke up, and it wasn't the town I grew up in. Since I speak English, I'm not "allowed" to go to the Boulevard Mall, since it's a Mexican-dominated neighborhood. Then Cafe Copioh was firebombed by the CCFD for "reasons uknown", and then Cafe Roma closed, too. The Red Rock Theater was torn down, Torrey Pines Cinema was converted to a Goodwill store (not a bad thing, but I miss the theater), the WOW! store closed recently, people in Summerlin drive to work in Henderson while the Marxist scum that are Henderson drives to Summerlin. The parks are now home to the "homeless", crime is out of control, the Mafia left (I wish they'd come back), the hookers all have AIDS, my school's be remodeled, and the trails inside of Red Rock Canyon are ruined, unable to be used because of wear and tear. This isn't the town I grew up in. Tower Records on Maryland and Flamingo is gone. The river that flows underneath Maryland Parkway near Flamingo is concreted up, preventing the wildlife to live, and preventing people like my buddy who got pushed into that river, with a city-famous quote among the locals, "For a second, I thought I was going to make it!" Scandia recently closed, too, as did Wet 'n' Wild . . . and Mary K's Arcade is also gone.
So, where do I hang out with people when I want to show 'em something? My step-dad and uncles show me everything they had growing up. It's all there in LA and San Francisco. In Las Vegas, there ain't jack!
I hate "Vegas, Baby", NV. I like Las Vegas, NV. My dusty, sleepy, Mafia town.
BTW: Now I live in Pahrump, NV. Loving it. It's sleepy, dusty, and the Herbst and Hafen families control everything. Also, we're the town that made English the only language in our township. We hate the Mexicans, and we really give hell to Californians. It doesn't matter if you disagree with me or not, I grew up in Las Vegas, and I need Las Vegas. I know what I'm talking about. Las Vegas is my life.
But Vegas is gone.

It's good
to see I'm not alone. I moved here solely for a job. I was
living in Philly (which I love) making an indecent amount of money for
someone with a master's degree. I'm making more money here, but never
felt more bored in my life. At least in Philly I had the train for
public transportation, friendly people, and culture. I could also drive
to other major cities within 2 hrs. It costs too much to fly out of
this city. And did I mention there's no culture? I plan on entering a
doctoral program in Chicago in Fall 2008 and I am basically in count
down mode....It feels good to complain.
Oh thank
God, I'm not alone. I just moved here 3 weeks ago from
Portland, Oregon....and I HATE this awful place. I typed in "I hate Las
Vegas" into the google search engine and this is how I found all of
you. This place is so strip mall/white trash/overbearingly hot (it's
frickin' APRIL and it's in the mid-90's). I could go on but it seems
like everybody covered all the bases. Wait! I know: they have public
service announcements on the radio & t.v. discouraging people from
driving on non paved roads -- no kidding. It's called "keep the dust
down", and it's a bona fide PSA. I HATE THIS TOWN, GOD PLEASE KILL ME.
I can't wait until November when this project ends and I can move back
home or somewhere else. I dread July & August......thanks for
letting me vent. I feel better
I've been
here since late Sept. '06 and have discovered Vegas is not
for me. People out here are uncivilized probably because their in so
much shock at how fast the city has grown. Where do I start? I moved
from here from So. California and have learned Nevada Drivers are in
la-la land. They don't know how to drive on freeways or the surface
streets to maintain a constant flow on the road. Also, what is the deal
with all the freeway construction? I see heavy machinery just sitting
dormant on the sides and contractors not really doing anything;
construction firms are milking NDOT bigtime as there is no real
progress on the freeway construction. I'd never buy a house here and if
I did I probably be stuck here the rest of my life. There really is not
sense of community in the neighborhoods. No openspace recreation area
and if there is they are private greenways and golf courses. Also,
about 2 months ago a unit in my apt. complex was staked out by the cops
and turns out that it was a meth. lab. Workers in white chem. outfits
and masks and a mobile chem. lab were set up in the parking lot with
bright lights and the marshalls questioning some people in handcuffs.
And the area I live in is fairly new in the southwest part of the city.
I'm bailing back to so. cal. as soon as I can. There is a total lack of
culture which is common with hillbillies and native nevadans are the
desert equivalent. One other thing, if you want to rot your brain watch
the local news. The top news story 'bout 4 months ago was about a
stolen puppy from a pet store. The stories they cover do not have any
depth; there aren't any interesting stories or topics that can let you
expand your horizons. This town has a small town mentality with one
single thing going for it; the casinos. No parks. No authentic culture.
No smaller concentrated outlying communities beyond that offer
diversity beyond the fakeness of the strip. The locals are rude; their
essentially upright walking desert rats. And the govt. officials are
even more bias, predjudice, and corrupt than those in other major
cities. Although I have a registered vehicle and a drivers license and
a job in this town, I still consider myself a tourist on vacation. Look
forward to the day I load the moving truck and watch the high rises
shrink in the rear view mirror when I'm heading to back to civilization.
I guess
I'll join everyone who posts here about how they hate Vegas. We
went for a friend's wedding and I will never return to that city again.
The whole city has this oppressive atmosphere and I felt crappy the
whole time I was there. It was a huge sigh of relief to leave... and
the funny thing is, I didn't even indulge in all the typical things
people do - sex, alcohol, gambling, etc. I'll never, ever go back.
Greetings.
I promise that I will NEVER EVER return to Las Vegas. My
wife and I just returned today after a week long stay for our 1st
wedding anniversary. She had been once before, and this was my first
time. As I read in an earlier reply, Vegas is nothing more than an
overkill of gambling, sex, and rudeness. The guys passing out the
escort service cards didn't get in my way as much I guess because my
wife was with me, but those damned salesmen trying to get us to buy
timeshares really annoyed the heck out of us. I had to step back and
count to 10 to avoid dropping the gloves (hocky phrase:) on one of the
more rude and aggressive salemen. Definately not a place for
romance...and I hate that we went there for our anniversary. One plus
was going on a tour of the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Viva Las Vegas?
Hmmm no...Vegas sucks!
Wow . . .
and I thought it was just me! I'm so glad to see that I'm not
crazy and that so many others feel the same overwhelming decline of
humanity. I came out with my husband, he's got a better job but at the
cost of my sanity and now I'm so totally depressed and hate it so much
here. There is absolutely zero quality of life in Las Vegas.
We've been
here ten months and are moving back East in seven days. This
city is gross...a morally bankrupt, dirty cesspool of soul-less
individuals with no values or ethics. I have had it. With rude
behavior, crappy drivers, dishonesty, oscar goodman's martini lapel
pin, and rotten-to-the-core political leaders who couldn't "lead" if
their lives depended on it. The more dishonest you are here, the more
successful you'll be. Goodbye. Good Riddance.
Hi all,
so funny that I found this blog the same way as others. Simply typing
in 'I hate las vegas' into google.
I moved here two years ago from tahoe because I work in the casino biz and wanted to advance my career. What better place than vegas? I also couldn't afford a house there and could here. Plus year round sunshine, sounded great!
Well, the career advancement has certainly happened. So has the house. So has the sunshine. So why am I not happy?
The environment here is horrible. Soul sucking. One big strip mall. I see shows about vegas on TV and you could never tell what part of the city they're in because it is all the same.
No one walks here. How can you? The sprawling strip malls run for miles and there is no place nice to walk to anyway. Public transportation is horrible. The only exception is the strip, there you dodge tourists, bums and 'porn hander outers' snapping their smut and shoving it under your nose.I also am from portland OR like a previous poster. That town is the polar opposite. Friendly, cultured, oozes character, tons of things to do that don't involve a casino. Rains too much though.
I was pretty social in my old town. Now I don't want to leave the house. Why bother? Every local bar is the same, video poker, TV and pool tables. Old barflys that gamble and drink to kill whatever pain they're killing. You're considered into outdoor activities if you golf. Or you could go to the casino clubs and enjoy waiting in line for half an hour for the priveledge or sucking down a few $12 cocktails and being bumped into by assholes and people so drunk they can hardly stand.
Everyone's biggest interest seems to be money. Everyone has some kind of scheme or scam or small minded plan. I've made next to no friends here. Why? Because what would we talk about? Gambling? How much money their new car cost them? How much money they're gonna make when so and so happens? Whether they'll lose their job because whatever just got bought or sold? I don't care.
How about the new local band that is playing at the neighborhood pub? How about the new exhibit at the art museum? How about floating down a slow river on rafts? Or camping in a spot away from crowds, or mountain biking in the woods, or going to the beach? Wait, you can't do any of that stuff in vegas, can you??!
It sounds just like bitching from people that are bitter. I'm not a bitter person at all, or at least I wasn't much of one till I moved here. On paper there are lots of cool things about vegas. Jobs, sun, partying, attractions. In reality the town and its utter lack of compassion, culture or real entertainment grinds away at your nerves and your soul.
I am about halfway towards my career goals. Just need a year or two to build more experience and resume power. Then I am getting the hell out of dodge and renting my house to some poor soul who made the same mistake as me in moving here.

So there
are others who hate this town as much as I. We were supposed
to move to the mountains in Colorado, a dream of mine since I was a
teen. But my husband said Las Vegas had more to offer. What a joke.
The healthcare system out here sucks. It takes months to get an appointment, and no one has evening or Saturday hours. After having diagnostic tests, I had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment to speak with the doctor about the results.
Your food choices are high end at the casinos, buffet at the casinos, or low end chain restaurants. It's almost impossible to find good pizza, Italian beef, or ribs.
For the same price as our house in the Midwest, we got 1/3 less square feet, no front yard, and a lot that is smaller than our old driveway. I can hear people in their back yards 2 blocks over. Our house value has decreased $40,000 in one year. From what I've read, it will decrease another 7-10% next year.
People brag about no state income tax. However, car registration is 5 times more expensive and insurance is 3 times more expensive than my previous residence. The unemployment rate is lower than the national average, but the majority of the jobs are minimum wage positions related to gaming, hotel, or food & beverage.
When I ask how people tolerate the heat, they say they stay inside where it's air conditioned. So how does that translate to better weather than staying inside when it's snowing? At least you can bundle up in a comfy sweater in the cold weather. The dry air is miserable for your skin and hair.
As others have mentioned, there is no sense of community. Littering is rampant, whether it is the Strip or outskirts. What do people think happens to gum they drop on the parking lot pavement when it's 110 degrees out? There is a low volunteer rate. These are the worst drivers I have ever seen. I am frankly scared to drive for the first time in my life.
My husband said there would be so much to do. Well, we'd done it all on vacations here. You either go out in the heat to Red Rock or Valley of Fire or you go to a casino.
We have a beautiful country. Why anyone would pick this desolate desert as a permanent residence eludes me. My husband seems to like it, and I still don't know why. I have hated every day here and will continue to hate Las Vegas until the day I die or move. No, I don't bring it up to my husband and "nag" him about it. He made it clear this was where he wanted to live, so that's where we are. At least I can post my comments and read yours, knowing that just because we live here doesn't mean we love this city of doom.

I'm the
Portland, Oregon guy who last posted on April 5th (above). It's
now July 1st, and I'm at the end of my rope. I've got 5 more months of
this hell hole, and the only way I can think of managing to cope is to
escape town every weekend -- which I regularly do. It's a 3 1/2 hour
drive to LA, one way, and I go almost every weekend.
I've had about a dozen friends come to Vegas in the almost 4 months that I've lived here....they almost always show up during the middle of the work week and they ALWAYS stay on the goddamned strip. I HATE GOING TO THE STRIP, and only do so when I'm dragged there to meet an out-of-town friend. The Strip is chock full of stupid gawking tourists who are taking pictures of blinking lights and water fountains....ugh! Get a life! Want to REALLY see the Eiffel Tower? GO TO THE "REAL" PARIS!
My Oregon license plate registration tags expired yesterday, and I'm actually driving back to Portland tomorrow to go through DEQ and to pick up a new set of stickers for my plates. People think I'm doing that to save money on registration: trust me, I'm not. It's basically a wash when you consider the fuel prices for my SUV and the time it takes to actually drive the 2,000+ mile round trip to Portland and back. My reasoning for doing this is twofold: First, I want to get as many personal effects out of my sublet condo here in Vegas and back into my dusty, cool basement in Portland as I possibly can. Second (and most importantly), there is NO WAY I want to have Nevada license plates on my car! My life here is just temporary, and I'll be damned if I do anything to contradict that constant reminder that I give to myself.
Having said all this, I did find a few bright spots that I should share with you other Vegas-haters. If you hate going to the bars here (ALL bars in Vegas seem to AT LEAST have video poker at the bar with a bunch of zombies staring down at the screen punching buttons), then I've got a hot tip for you. I actually found 3 bars downtown that offer a casual atmosphere, all with either a great juke box or bartender-played CDs, with NO GAMING AT ALL, and zero tourists frothing for sex or slot machines: the Griffen on Fremont, just a few feet south of LV Blvd., the Beauty Bar, just a few feet further south of the Griffen, and the Downtown Bar, around the corner on LV Blvd. I've actually talked to the cool, tatooed owner at the Downtown Bar and said, "you know, your place is refreshing and reminds me of home". He said (swear to God) "where are you from, Portland Oregon? Because that's the city that inspired me for this bar". I cried tears of joy. OK, so you ain't gonna get any free drinks because you're playing video poker, and you might not be able to enjoy a riveting conversation with a drunk asshole tourist who wants to know where the "best titty bars are". Sure you're gonna pay a little more for your drink (like 7 or 8 bucks, ok?), but it's well worth it to be away from the riff raff and white trash. Plus the bartenders are all friendly and take a moment to chat, a lot of the people inside have piercings and tatoos (I have neither, but I like being around that type of crowd -- it oozes "anti-establishment"), and your fellow patrons are better educated and can offer up interesting chatter and discussion.

I want to
blow my brains out. This place sucks. I came from a town with
tons of history, culture and people who knew the area. I have yet to
meat someone who was born and raised here and I am begining to figure
out why... Once you spend a month in this Hell Hole you pretty much
want to jump in front of a taxi on the 215. What happened to my life! 3
years left and counting the days. I need a support group.
Born and
raised in Las Vegas... and I have to agree.
I remember when this was a small town - I remember when people were nice. When I was in high school, a busboy was able to get their childs prom dinner comped. Health care was great, schools were good and we honestly often forgot to lock the door (in the 70's). It all changed when the casinos went corporate. Most have them have made deals with deals devil on health insurance. They all use Fremont and Sierra who have destroyed health care in Nevada. Dr.Corey Brown and Dr.Tony Marlin will rot in hell for what they have done. FYI..most of the higher casino execs have " the exec plan that is not given to the workers" Their plans are great ... since they works so much harder, then lets say a cocktail server who is on her feet all day.
And look at Harrah's - the CEO lives in Boston. This is one of largest employers in the state, and his kids don't go to school here... so he is concerned about boston not vegas. He never goes to community events...much less a childs soccer game. Why should he care about the crime rate or the lack of culture, let them eat cake.
Once again... if the CEO's would get involved Las Vegas could get better
Until the CEO's care, Vegas will continue to go down the tubes. I do think they will care when the crime rate is so high that it hurts the bottom line. (The Murrens of the MGM do get involved, but one family is not enough, although they have made a big difference - but wouldn't it be great if the others would take note)
Sadly..Las Vegas will continue to be a place not unlike hell. And yes I am bitter.. I would like a nice place to raise my family and will continue to be bitter until it changes.

I LOVE ALL
OF YOU! Ive lived in Lost Wages for about 3 years now.
Growing up in So Cal & Utah I developed a love for being outside.
Here you can only be out doors for 15 min. max. The music suck,
tourists suck, locals suck, drivers suck, there is no sense of
community. Everything is fake, tacky glamour BULLSHIT and I HATE HATE
HATE it.If I dont find a way put of here soon Im jumping off of the
stratosphere. Whos with me. HMMM and I used to such a nice young man.
Never in
my life have I seriously considered suicide before I was
transfered here for work. I've been here 6 months and, after going to
California over the weekend (where I moved from), I had a nervous
breakdown at the prospect of coming back.
There is, plain and simple, nothing to do other than drink or gamble. There is not a single coffee house not emblazened with a Starbucks logo, not a single art-house theater.
But more than anything, the people here are dastardly... I have never in my life encountered so many people so often who entirely lack courtesy or integrity. They will look you straight in the face as they walk in a building and slam the door on you. The drivers here are worse than any I've ever seen. (On my frequent trips to LA and San Diego, driving down the I-15, if anyone pulls a seriously unsafe driving maneuver, 95 percent of the time the car has Nevada plates.
Not only is greed paramount to just about everything, the fact that everyone goes broke here for one reason or another means that everyone is mad all the time. They become so self-absorbed and consumed with how they will come up with the money they owe for whatever it is that there is no space left in their minds to be occupied by thoughts of others. It's very apparent and it's appalling. What I don't understand is that everyone here agrees, but they still try to convince me to give it a chance, I'll "grow to love it." Why on earth would I want to grow to love this? I have a soul.
After only 6 months, I put in my notice at my apartment. I'll be out of here in 1 month and now that I know it's almost over, the utter misery of never leaving the house and not knowing a single soul (and not a single soul knowing me), the weight has been lifted. I'm even moving to a city in which I don't even have a job. That's how bad it is.

Why on earth would I want to grow to love this? I have a soul.
After only 6 months, I put in my notice at my apartment. I'll be out of here in 1 month and now that I know it's almost over, the utter misery of never leaving the house and not knowing a single soul (and not a single soul knowing me), the weight has been lifted. I'm even moving to a city in which I don't even have a job. That's how bad it is.
This is so
funny I googled I hate Las Vegas and got this. I have so
many reasons to hate Las Vegas, after being here for about a year I
realized some thing, I don’t care if this place is located in the
middle of the desert or the altitude. Las Vegas is burning hot for a
reason, its hell. All sane people even possibly considering moving
don’t. You will regret it the second you do it. This truly is the place
dreams go to die. Also a degree from UNLV is not worth much outside of
Nevada.
i also
googled "i hate vegas" & stumbled upon this site. every year
my husband's family has their reunion there & every year i try to
get out of it. well, i thought i hit the jackpot this year because i
didn't want to bring our 11 month old daughter, woo-hoo! WRONG! i
fibbed & said it was due to our lack of $$ that we couldn't go,so
my mom in law offered to pay for our gas, food,lodging....damn it...and
hubby still wants to go AND he wants me & the baby to go-laying on
the guilt about it's my family who comesout from chicago (we live in
l.a.) & they will want to meet the baby, blah blah blah...i'm so sad
that once again, i'll be stuck there-ugh
Help me
get out of this HELL named Las Vegas. It is the worst city on
the globe. All of the reasons have already been stated here in this
forum. They are 100% true. I have lived here 5 years and have been
robbed 2 times . My car tires slashed twice. My car stereo stolen. And
last January I was the victim of a home invasion robbery and they
killed my wife. PLEASE HEED THESE WARNINGS. Don't ruin your life and
move to this horrible town. It will destroy your life.
Thanks for letting me vent.
Rob.

i'm the

i'm so sorry to hear about your wife (see above).
that's tragic.

Oh thank
God for this website. I thought I was being antisocial. Spent
5 days in Las Vegas. I am a 58-year-old grandmother; by the evening of
day one I was sitting in a corner of the Mirage casino, on my cell
phone, crying to my husband that I hated it and wanted to come home. He
told me to take a walk, get outside. I tried that -- the grass and
flowers were plastic and there was piped in music everywhere. Are there
no birds in this city?? I understand how an autistic child feels --
sensory overload. And why in God's name would so many people bring
their children to this wretched city? The grass is phony, the air is
phony, the smells and people and plants are phony. The nicest person I
met was my Yugoslavian taxi driver who took me to the airport -- I
tipped him $20 on a $20 fare, just because he spoke nicely to me. Now,
that's pathetic. The hotel said they conserve water by not washing the
sheets everyday, but the same hotel sprays mists of water OUTSIDE to
cool the transporation arrive/depart area. The BEST part of my trip to
Las Vegas was the hour I spent on the plane at the airport gate waiting
for a mechanic. At least this plane was heading the right way.
Sometimes
I think even the Internet is a conspiracy. With the amount of
money involved, I would not be surprised if sites that say "I Hate Las
Vegas" mysteriously disappear.
There are millions of people who hate Las Vegas. All of these comments hold true.
It is a sick, pathetic place designed to rob you of all your hard earned cash. It is pumped up in media, and pumped up all over America to drive people here. It is supposed to be the destination of all for sex, gambling, and booze.
The sex is simply prostitutes with AIDS who want to milk you of your money to serve their crack/cocaine addictions while demanding hundreds of dollars.
The gambling is designed to rob you so badly of your money that you think that you are getting a good deal by waiting around for a beer or two every 15 minutes while you slop down your hundreds of dollars on slot machines.
The booze is self explanatory. Numb your pain. Culture? Forget it. Spend hundreds of dollars on shows that are supposed to 'entertain' and keep you wanting more - It's all a huge gimmick.
I will NEVER go to Las Vegas again and I'm only 23. Cab drivers? Everyone? Greedy as hell. People go out of their way to DEMAND money and tips from you from the moment you leave the airport. It's all about cold hard cash.
It's making me sick to my stomach.

I'm
dreading going in October, but I already have my plane fare...and
I'm flying my mother from Hawaii to be there too. My niece from England
is having her 30th birthday party there...she goes every year. Last
year I got out of it..this year I have to go because I haven't seen
much of my family in the past few years. Three years ago, my hub and I
went to his sister's wedding (by Elvis). The best part of LV was the
dinner we had at the Bellagio - great service - expensive - $600 for 6
of us! You get what you pay for with meals.
I used to work in Tahoe in casinos, and learned to hate myself for working there. Las Vegas is the worst of the worst though. The energy wasted for lighting is despicable - naturally we all referred to it as Lost Wages. And the water usage! All the hotels - think about all those rooms and bathrooms! Too much waste.
Dreading going...you bet. Luckily my sister has some "other events" planned, like Lake Mead, but I'm so dreading this trip - I don't even really like this part of the family. It's a sacrifice.
I think I'll bring my knitting. Thank you for this site!

You all
need to get a life. Life is what you make of it wherever you
might be. I've lived all over and Vegas is not all that bad. Just stay
away from the strip if you don't want to be disgusted w/ the tourist
bull shit. What you people need is PROZAC or something.
Funny the
Las Vegas guy suggests PROZAC. All the people in Las Vegas
are addicted to some sort of drug. Whether its booze, prescription
meds, or meth. Las Vegas is called the meth capital of the U.S. . How
typical. Las Vegas sucks and the losers that live there deserve what
they get.
HAVING
JUST RECENTLY MOVED TO WISCONSIN FROM LIVING IN LAS VEGAS FOR 2
YEARS IV NOTICED 2 THINGS . MY BLOOD PRESSURE IS BACK TO NORMAL AND MY
HAIR IS TURNING BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL COLOR. I WORKED AT THE BELLAGIO AS
A SECURITY GUARD AND LET ME TELL YOU THE TREAT YA LIKE CRAP . MY RENT
780 PER MONTH IN A BAD NEIBOHRHOOD 135 A MONTH FOR CAR INSURANCE MAKING
15.50PER HOUR . IN WISCONSIN I MAKE 10 PER HOUR BUT HAVE ALOT MORE
MONEY TO SPEND MY RENT BEING 385 PER MONTH MY CAR INSURANCE 65 PER
MONTH . . HOPEFULLY THIS TOWN WILL RUN OUT OF WATER AND WE ALL GET TO
SEE THE ECONOMIC EMPLOSION WILL HAPPEN.
My rent in
that shitty town called Las Vegas, was 995.00, in the middle
of gangland. My electric bill in the summer 275.00. And the pay there
sucks , all the jobs are low paying. Las Vegas can eat it.!!!!
I hate the
state of Nevada and Las vegas. People in Utah are so nice.
Las vegas is so dangerious that i dont even stop in the state when
driving through. Did you read about the las vegas sewer people a whole
community that lives in the sewers under Las Vegas. I hate the
marketers for Las Vegas> If your living there in Hell Las Vegas i
would suggest moving ASAP go north or east. good luck and my deepest
sympathy to anyone who is stuck in Nevada.
To the guy
who says we need to get a life, and aparently enjoys vegas.
I laughed when i read your post. So your saying after 50 people posts
there experiences and all were negative, we all need prozac. This is
the I hate Las Vegas blog FYI, maybe your in the wrong blog try typing
in I love Las Vegas. Oh wait a second I already did that no such a
blog, um.... I wounder why. Maybe your blind or maybe you just haven't
lived here long enough either way. It's not a matter of preception,
it's a matter of reality. You need to learn the difference between to
two.
Las Vegas
was ranked the most dangerous city in the country , four
years in a row. Why would anyone bring their family to live in that
hell-hole?
I can't
believe I got here the same way so many have, by googling "I Hate Las
Vegas".
OK, I have to admit I'm one of the fortunate ones who had enough opportunities to sample that vile sewage system disguised as a city before moving there.
Because I work for an Airline that flies out of Las Vegas, and countless layovers there, I had enough experience with the propositioning sex workers, the look desperation of drunken drones who've lost every cent they had, to the fat overindulged greedy tourist who are coming to hopefully make up for their lack of preplanning in life, in hopes of making up for it in one pull of a lever.
I was offered an opportunity to further my career, but it would have to be in Las Vegas. After much soul searching (and I'd like to keep my soul) and reading many of the heartfelt post here, my decision is now made.
Thanks, but no thanks...I'll stay right here in New Jersey.

You all
have got to be kidding me...
Believe it or not, there is life in Las Vegas off the Strip. You dont like it, stay away from it! You know what to expect going there. I've lived here for 18 years, and go to the strip maybe ONCE A YEAR. It is called Sin City for a reason. Its not just a clever little nickname.
Yet, somehow... The city grows. Some people it seems like this city and what it offers them. If it was as bad as you people think, do you honestly think it would be growing as fast as it is?
Yes, there are problems. Growth causes a large portion of it. Do you honestly think that growing so fast can be easy on a city's infrastructure? How long do you think it takes to build roads, schools, hospitals, etc? The city is only 100 years old. And its only been since the 60's since its population began to explode. Do you really think Chicago, LA, or NY didnt have issues when they were growing? Or that they don't have any problems now? Some things just cant be accomplished as fast as others. Were the subways of NY built in a week? Were the freeways of LA done in a month? Were the elevated trains of Chicago built in a year? NO. And the majority of those were built before the days of the Sierra Club and other groups that think we shouldn't build freeways anymore, so they tie up any new construction of them in the courts for year after year. Usually, this will cause traffic, which ironically will cause more pollution (which is their main reason for the lawsuits) because far more cars are in a smaller area for a longer period of time.
You don't like it here, fine. Its a city like none other, and takes some getting used to. I don't think its fair to blame the whole city on one bad experience on the Strip or that you were too isolated to take it upon yourself to go out, meet some new people and see what the city has to offer.

I was born
here in this shithole. Everyday that I don't shoot myself is
a miracle. Back in the 70's it was a cool place to live, now its just a
depressing eyesore. Only the desperate and the nations losers come here
to live. I finally found a job away from this hell on earth and I will
be gone from this place by November. Yesssss. Las Vegas can fall off
the globe for as far as I am concerned. BYE Bye 120 degree summers, Im
going to a place where you can go outside in the summer and enjoy it.
LATER LOSERS
Las Vegas
sucks. Most people I know that lived there or visited there
hated it. There are no , "I love Las Vegas" sites on the net, only
"Hate it" sites. That will tell you something. No worries though. In 5
years the water in Lake Mead will be gone and so will the residents.
(Except for the hard core Las Vegans, they will drink whiskey instead,
hahahahah what a bunch of morons that live there)
The city
has nothing of value to offer. Everything is fake, I lived there for 8
years, hated every minute.
The day I moved away was the happiest day of my life. Stay Away From That City.

get out of the shitty town . HELLLLLLLLLPPP
Anyone who
defends that horrible city is a degenerate. They are there
for the debauchery . They are addicted to gambling, alcohol, and drugs.
They deserve one another.

friends
talked me into holidaying in vegas with them and against my
better judgement here i am. it's only my second day and i'm dying to go
home. vegas is possibly the ugliest city i've ever seen and i would
consider myself fairly well travelled. even expensive places like the
wynn look so tacky. how anyone can live in such an artificial and
uncultered place is an absolute miracle to me. i don't even have anyone
to complain to because my friends seem to love it here. another 5 days
until i'm back in lovely london :-((. until then i'll have to keep
myself busy with a good book - i can actually feel my brain cells dying
with nothing but silicone tits and countless other maifestations of bad
taste around me. my heart goes out to anyone who has to actually live
in this shithole.
Las Vegas
News 8/27
Four people are dead after another violent weekend in Las Vegas; all were found dead in separate crimes and there are still no suspects. Since early Saturday morning, there have been two shootings, a stabbing and one woman found dead how she died is still a mystery.
It all started here in a northwest Las Vegas neighborhood early Saturday morning. Police say a man was sleeping when someone came in and shot him twice in the head.
The second shooting happened early Sunday morning inside a 7-11 store near Maryland Parkway and Desert Inn.
Metro says the victim, a man in his mid-twenties, was playing slots. That's when the shooter walked right up to the door, leaned in and began shooting, hitting the victim at least eight times.
Just a few streets east, and less than 24 hours before that, homicide detectives arrived at Arizona Charlie's on Boulder Highway. That's where they found a woman dead inside a hotel room, face down, naked and few clues left behind.
"The perpetrator seemed like they went through some measures to conceal whatever evidence that was there,".
Earlier that morning, more crime tape surrounded a home in North Las Vegas where officers found a man in his 30's stabbed to death.
The string of violent crimes has become routine in Las Vegas, and detectives working around the clock, but all of these crimes remain unsolved.

Despite
the title, this is an EXCELLENT website containing the Real
News about Las Vegas.. The news they'd rather you not hear..

http://satanscity.blogspot.com/
The other
day a gang of teens/young guys tried to surround me and
demand my wallet. I managed to get away from them. But it was up in
Summerlin, the area you think you're not supposed to come across this
stuff too often.(lol) And all the while, the home-invasions and car
thefts here are skyrocketing. And my old neighborhoods? (which pretty
much includes all the REST of Vegas) I wouldn't even think of wandering
through most of it now! All of Vegas has pretty much now become what
they said the less-than-stellar parts of LA was supposed to be.
And besides all this, WHO do I have to 'relate' to here these days anymore? There's the wealthy/upper middle class/Summerlin types in their little community.. who are more about (frankly pathetic) 'appearances' really.. in their hummers and big flimsy domino-houses than any real culture or class. You'd be lucky to even get a smile out of many of them to be frank.. let alone a 'hello'. For people whom you'd expect to be 'living ok' they sure look sour all the time. ( can't blame them really!). Then there's the much ballyhooed 'Club Scene'.. whose more than content to give away tons of money in tips to ridiculous door-guys every night so that they can just drink themselves silly and stare at other morons like themselves night after night (Britney or Paris anyone? Funny.. they just love coming here too.. This IS 'B or C-level actor/singer Heaven after all! - Just watch 'EXTRA'!).. What a life, More 'useless appearances'.. Sorry, not my thing either.
Then on the flip-side of the coin from all this.. there are now HORDES of these other types that look like they just stepped out of the WORST Trailor-Park you can imagine. (I hate to 'pull a Simon' - But my gawd.. It's not just the city itself that's gone 'Ugly' these days.) These kinds of people used to seem relatively rare, But they are EVERYWHERE now.. trying to snap up all the crap casino-jobs they like to advertize about all over the mid-west like a Jerry Springer 'carrot-on-a-stick'. Go to any of Vegas's so-called 'cultural events' and you may even see all of their children as well.. covered head to toe in tattoos (I have to admit, I started to really hate the things - once it got to the point where I couldn't spot a person WITHOUT one) chain-smoking (the very air in downtown Vegas smells perpetually of a combo of stale piss and smoke)and all looking rather 'dazed.' (Even the most casual weekly art-show in any number of coastal California towns is FAR superior than Vegas's 'First Fridays'.. You might actually see some ART instead of all these people and the brown clouds they generate)
Other than that? There's the growing (& I mean GROWING) Mexican community of course.. You can't pass by any goverment place now without seeing an IMMENSE line of them running all around it these days (with a Kazillion kids). Actually I think most of them seem like pretty decent folks really.. And I certainly can't blame anyone from wanting to earn a living or feed their families either. But not a one of them seems to speak a word of English anymore, and now I see many of the jobs here (which as previously mentioned - are pretty pathetic low-wage nothing things throughout) are practically DEMANDING that one speaks Spanish as well as English.. to deal with them all. Frankly, I don't mind Spanish, It's a nice language. But if I want to speak it, I'd rather be in Spain then anywhere around this damn place!
You won't find too many 'normal folks'(whatever that even may be - I've practically forgot living here too long) much anymore either (assuming you're even INTO that sort of thing) Dating?.. Heh.. I don't think I've even run across a single next-door-girl type in the last several years who upon closer examination, didn't turn out to be either 'running from something in their past', a bit druggy (or a lot), or just plain seemingly 'half out of their freaking minds... (usually the most common situation - Involves a combo of all three.)
I feel now like I'm either in a very bad 'Mad Max movie'.. or the world's biggest assembled Trailor Park. (take your pick) I for one, will be so glad to leave this awful, dreary, alternatively superficial/filthy nothing-of-a-place far far behind me. If I get out of here.. I won't even mention it again, let alone step foot in it.

and yes...
On top of it all - It's either always 112 outside, or
miserable windy and dreary out. Not much in-between those two.
I wonder
if a woman of outwardly indeterminate sexual preference would be so
harassed. This could get interesting. -jmd
It was a
pleasure reading everyone's comments. I've lived here for
about 10 years now and I cant wait to leave. I am like most people who
live in Vegas, a transient. I moved here with my parents when i was 13
and now I am 23 and looking for a way out of this pit. It seems like my
life force is sucked out of me being here. I hate clubs, bars, the
strip and strip clubs. In addition I definitely agree with people
saying that Vegas lacks culture and community, this probably has to to
do with the fact that Vegas is sometimes seen as intermediate step
before you settle elsewhere. As far as a couple of people complaining
about Hispanics or immigrants working on the strip, thats just pathetic
and a low blow, there are just as many if not more white trash tweakers
committing crimes along with every other criminal. so whats worse a
latino person handing you a call girl card or a meth crazed caucasian
stealing your shit to buy more meth.
I HATE
THIS SORRY PATHETIC PIECE OF CRAP DUSTY TOILET BOWL OF A HELL

pain in the above comment. Many parents drag their kids
here. It can be paradise for some adults, All night gambling ,drinking,
drugs everywhere. But there is nothing here for kids to do. Thats why
Las Vegas is #1 in the nation for TEEN suicide, TEEN pregnancy/ High
School dropouts and teen drug usage. And Las Vegas is almost Last in
the nation when it come to schools and education. Las Vegas is clearly
a place to visit for a vacation, but by no means should you try to
raise a family here.
Who the
hell moves to Vegas anymore? I mean it was popular to move
there in the 90's , but not anymore. Vegas' time has passed.

Dude ,
Everyone knows Vegas is a joke. The people who live there don't
even know that they are being laughed at by the rest of the country.
Don't be fooled by people who tell you..."If its such a joke why are
7000 people moving here each month?" the answer is easy. 7000 IDIOTS
move there each month. 5000 move away each month. That is 5000 people
who learned a hard lesson, or came to their senses.
Vegas is for losers and has-beens.
Always has ...always will.
Vegas is for losers and has-beens.
Always has ...always will.
I was born
here. I was raised here.
It wasn't until I started traveling in my twenties to other parts of the country that I even realized how off base the entire city is.
The traffic is offensive, the nightlife is overrated and the shows are too expensive. You can't stay anywhere on the Strip for less than $300 a night anymore.
The people don't care about each other, the housing is ridiculous, the water authority is a group of Nazis and you can't do anything without being accosted by the glorification of addiction.
The gaming industry is using ads to say that they help pay for schools...which are underfunded as it is.
There is no culture. There is no class. There are no manners. And it sucks your life away.
So why stay? Because everyone is making good money right now. And so you get a five year plan...and then another five year plan...and then another. And before you know it you're here for 30 years longer than you wanted to.
At some point you have to decide whether your sanity is more important than the money...and whether you can raise kids in this place to be good people.
Like Sheryl Crowe says..."I'm leaving Las Vegas...and I won't be back."

WOW, that
was great. The above entry stated exactly how I feel . More
importantly it states what I'm going through. The 5 year plan turns
into 15 . (for me) He was right on the money about everything about
this crummy city. LAS VEGAS, STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!!!!!
My 2 year
old grand daughter, Everlyse Cabrera, has been missing from a
Las Vegas foster home since last June 10, 2006. Family Services in
Vegas are responsible for putting her in a home that was not currently
licensed and had already had a toddler boy removed months before for
2nd degree burns. The foster parents have refused to cooporate at all
from the very beginning. They walked out of a court deposition,
refusing to answer any questions about Everlyse. You or I would have
been put in JAIL for refusing to answer questions. The judge excused
them having to say anything. The slogan "What happens in Vegas, stays
in Vegas" is a load of crap!!! Vegas really sucks and so does it's
government system. Everlyse photos were lost and never shown on
national TV. Vegas wishes to brush this under the rug....MUST BE BAD
FOR TOURISM! When and why is a precious little child not more important
than anything else? Vegas needs to be wiped off the map!!!
I'm a
Midwesterner who was supposed to teach elementary school in Las
Vegas this year, but when the Department of Education hadn't approved
my Nevada Teaching License by the time I needed to move, I decided I
couldn't take the risk. (Since no license = no teaching.) Now I'm
grateful that, even though I applied in June, they STILL haven't gotten
around to granting it. (Bastards didn't waste any time cashing my
check, though.) I'm certain it is a blessing in disguise: Las Vegas is
clearly worse than I ever imagined.
I have to
get out of this shit hole its tearing my relationship apart
and it ripp apart my last relationship.. this place makes you so angry,
everyone is so rude, traffic is terrible theirs ABSOLUTLY nothing to
do..everyone expects HUGE TIPS FOR EVERYTHING UNDER PAID over worked
people smokers nasty ass stinky people gangs poverty its horrible im so
sick of this fake ass sorry piece of shit going nowhere town.. I MISS
THE REAL GREEN GRASS AND NICE OCEAN BREEZE I WISH I HAD NEVER MOVED
HERE!!! the money is NOT WORTH IT i rather live poor in SAN DIEGO than
comfortable in las vegas FUCK LAS VEGAS!!!
The
evidence is here people. If you read these poor peoples comments and
still move here. YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GET!!
Violent
crime rose by more than 30% in Las Vegas last year. That's
according to the latest figures from the FBI, which show double digit
increases in rape, robbery, and aggravated assault between 2005 and
2006. Violent crime was also up in both Henderson and North Las Vegas,
but murders in both those cities fell last year. Clark County Sheriff
says that fighting crime in Las Vegas has become a particular
impossible for Metro Police. Nationally, the FBI says violent crimes
increased nearly 2% while in Sin City it rose OVER 30%.
I hate Las
Vegas with a passion. Every summer I break down and go with
my husband, who loves it. I spend 4 or 5 days feeling drained of all
life and avoiding smoke filled casinos. Why don't people just take
their money and flush it down the toilets of those places? I am NEVER
going there again! YIPPEE!! I told my husband next time he is on his
own and I know he will have a good time. I wonder if it's genetic to
either love it or hate it. If I never see that fake ass city again, it
will be too soon.
When I
worked in Vegas I was attacked by armed robbers twice. I had
several confrontations with gangsters or wannabe gangsters. The heat is
deadly and the water will run out sooner than you think. I am glad I
got out and now I know my kids won't have to worry about getting hurt
by crazy people. We have water, grass and trees here. Las Vegas has
sand, heat and greedy crazy people.
I am a
native Las Vegan who, 10 years ago, would have responded to all
of this critiscism of my hometown with the delivery of a verbal lambast
capable of rendering all previous posters into a permanent fetal
position. But the unstoppable flow of new residents and the
unquenchable need to expand despite our lack of water resources, left
those of us who remember when this was a really cool place to live in
the dust a long time ago.
So while I'm forced to agree that LV has indeed become a shithole, I feel compelled to point out that it's the very same folks who are bitching and complaining herein who made it that way.
I'm contemplating moving to another state for no other reason than because, just once in my life, I'd like to be asshole from out of town.

One
question, why does it smell so bad in Las Vegas? I'm not kidding,
someone told me it was the wash? All I know is everywhere you go it
smells like someone just farted nearby. What a dump.
I have to
agree in part with the poster above, that when I grew up here
it actually WASN'T such a bad place to live.. I had many decent
friends, and there was even a sense of 'community' and (strangely
enough) even a strong sense of 'optimism' abounded.. which one could
hardly even fathom in the Vegas of today. The place it has become
today? I don't even recognize it. It's like having been dropped in a
strange hostile alien world of sorts. (And yes - one that smells a bit
rank at that..)
The
problem with Las Vegas is that (most) everyone is from somewhere
else. Which makes for a city filled with losers that ran away (or
couldnt make it) in their home states. Las Vegas has the nations worst
of the worst. Ever notice that Las Vegas leads the country in the list
of the worst things.
They have the worst schools, salary, weather, culture, etc. etc.
We get it . Let the nations worst all gather there. Then let the nuke dump there leak. hahahahahah

Just
arrived back to home sweet home, in south jersey, righ outside
Atlantic City! I was so excited to visit vegas, was actually thinkin of
moving there for the casino industry, i work now in the Borgata in
Atlanic city. Wow i would hate to live in vegas, everything is fake and
man made. The air was dry, was longing for natural water.. and
pollutted with so much smoke, from ciggerettes, machines, and
automobile. Way to many people in vegas and they all seemed to be sick,
1 out 3 people were caughing! majorly gross! Prolly sick from polluted
air and unhealthy lifestlyes. The vacation was not relaxing at all, i
didnt even here one bird chirp, just the hustle and bustle of machines
and construction. Also the food in vegas is not all that,,everything
got to be imported, no fresh veggies, fruit or fish out in the desert.
Any way vegas is not a good place for a vacaction, if you want casinos
Atlantic city is 10 times better, its a much better balance at least we
have fresh food, air, trees, and the ocean! Gotta love the ocean. Also
i consider Atlantic City to be a lot classier, cant believe im saying
this but after my visit to vegas. MOther Nature is complelty crying at
the sight of Vegas. JULIA CAMPO
To the
above comment, The reason for the coughing is what locals call,
VEGAS THROAT. It comes from the unhealthy combination of Dry Air, Dusty
Air , and Pollution. Some of the strip entertainers from out of town go
to great and expensive lengths to avoid this illness. Not to mention, a
recent UNLV survey found that 7.6 Las Vegans out of 10 smoke cigarettes
regularly (regularly meaning 1 to more than 1 pack a day)
Las Vegas reeks!
Las Vegas reeks!
I'm glad
I found this blog. I have changed my mind on a move to Nevada.
After seeing this blog I did more extensive research on Las Vegas , and I found the negatives out weigh the positives 8to1 . Thanks for helping me avoid what appears to have been a great big mistake.
Thank for telling it like it is.

I found
the strength to write on this blog finally. I moved my family
to Las Vegas after living in "so called' boring Nebraska. I came for
some more excitement. 2 months after moving here , gangs killed my boy.
he was 14.
I can't live with the guilt. I should have stayed in boring Nebraska. My boy would have lived. I hate this crime infested town. I leave next month, leaving my dead boy behind. I hope Las Vegas fails, and the town dries up.
Good by, Ron

Ron, I'm so
sorry for you and your boy. No family should have to suffer
with that kind of pain, especially in a city like Las Vegas.
I agree with all those angry with Las Vegas. I've been here 5 months on a year long internship. I'm counting down the days till I get to leave and go back to the East coast. June can't come soon enough.
A big thank you to the host of this website. I don't know any of you and I feel like this is the only bit of community that I've found since I have been here.

went
there once.. thats all it took
I was supposed to stay 4 days.. after I met my client I booked my return flight 2 days IN ADVANCE..
Back to my beloved, green SEATTLE..
I could not wait to leave Vegas, the unfriendliness, the lack of manners, lack of culture, oppressive social atmosphere..
planning to never visit Vegas again.

The
American Psychiatric Congress had it's yearly meeting there in
2005. I booked a room at the Luxor. It was "just next door" to the
conference site Mandalay Bay. I walked for 35 minutes (all indoors in a
kind of mall0 to get to the meetings. I took some fellow doctors to
dinner at the Charlie Palmer Steakhouse. I have traveled a bit, even
stayed at the Hermatage in Monte Carlo, but I've never seen such a
rip-off. The entrees were $30+ each, the salads, $15, the side veg.
$6-8, wine $200 (nothing special), bread-$6-10. My small dinner at an
average steakhouse for four and their spouses came to $750. So much for
cheap eating in Vegas. My room had only 40 watt bulbs making it
impossible to read or even review the Vegas travel maps. There was a
bed (for two) a stick chair and a jetted tub. The tub was crammed into
the angle of the wall. This hotel is in the shape of a pyramid.
Everything was made to encourage going to gamble...which I do not care
for. Now, I'm a pretty liberal kind of guy. I like throwing back a few,
having fun even trying the slots, but when impossibly beautiful women
in thongs approach me and ask for a cocktail order at 5:30am while I go
for coffee. All in all I hate Vegas as I hate the deeds of Hitler, O.J.
and Bin Laden. Please folks enjoy NYC, LA, New Orleans, even
Walkertown, N.C., but avoid Vegas...it's time and money wasted.
I've given
this place nearly 7 months now and I feel it's worse than
before. What a nightmare. NO CULTURE. It is not the people's fault,
this is what would happen with any new city. We should have respect for
the historical towns we have and keep them that way. This place is
terrible be we, as people, made it this way. I can't wait to leave.
Cleveland never looked so good. God Bless history and looking out for
each-other. You won't find that here. Plus, if your from Mexico and
don't speak English, don't expect any respect. I wouldn't move to
Mexico expect to speak English without dealing with crap. We shouldn't
put up with it either.
GODDAMNIT
i hate this place... dry dusty, brown desert toilet bowl
infested with smokers, bad traffic, no where to go nothing to do..
people are rude and have their heads burried in the slot machines. no
good barbeque no culture NOTHING even the grass is fake artifical turf
is NOT GRASS people.. im turning 30 and my present to myself is to move
to san diego ca and be happy smelling the nice ocean breeze with some
REAL green grass and a back yard <---something las vegans really
know nothing about HAHA FUCK THIS SORRRY PIECE OF SHIT TOILET BOWL
LEAVING YOU PILES OF SHIT TO ROT IN YOUR OWN FECES AND INFESTATION..
I moved
here about five years ago with my family from central jersey
and have been hating life just about ever since. There is no culture,
the people are fake and everything else is completely contrived. Just
about the only thing I like about this place is Red Rock Canyon and
even that has been taken over so that tourists can access it. I miss
trees, and culture, and people who care about something other then
their appearance and who they know. I could go on but it suffices to
say that after this last year of highschool Im looking foward to
escaping back to the east coast for college.
I just
spent five days here with the wife.
Apart from a renewel of vows ceremony at the graceland chapel everything else was pretty poor.
The level of consumption and waste is pretty vast.
I dont like the pushers of porn or timeshare, extemely annoying.
The food at the Mirage was expensive and tasteless.
The best shows were more expensive than the worst we have in London and featured "contract" and unheard of actors, I thought everything in America was bigger and better, well the shows certainly are not!
The deauce (pardon the spelling) was very cheap but too slow and too crowded, sometimes waiting 5 mins or longer at each stop, and, ahem, have you heard of a queue?
People step into your lift before you have got out.
Too many people, walking was difficult in places.
Overall the food was very poor, so poor in fact that twice we went to Macdonalds (the first time I have been to Macdonalds in years), it says something about cuisine when only some crappy cheeseburger is on offer (no milkshake though, the machine was not working)
I found people friendly actually, contrary to most people`s opinions here and met many very nice Americans, I was amazed how friendly my bus journeys were, maybe its because I`m an Englishman? or handsome tall rich and thin (only one of those are actually true).
Overall I did not like Vegas, too noisy, smelly, no decent theater, crap food, too crowded, over priced low quality shows and the touts were infuriating.
I wont be going again however I will definately be coming back to the states, a great country and some wonderful people.
Apart from the Mexicans Jews and Irish.
And the Greeks

I was
reluctant to move to LV, even turning down an invitation for an
interview. But they made an offer I couldn't refuse so to speak. I
moved here in July and my first impression was not good. The heat was
overwhelming. I moved from Houston so I know heat. But this was
different. It is an oppressive baking heat. And how many times do you
have to hear "but it's a dry heat" before you lose your mind?
So much of my own opinion of this town has been reflected in the comments already posted here. This town is absolutely devoid of any culture. When I mentioned to someone at the office that I enjoyed being involved in the art scene they suggested that I try "First Friday" to check out the local art scene. I did, it wasn't.
The people here are rude and truly lack manners. The drives are clueless and the simple task of merging is beyond their capability.
The only thing I have enjoyed about being here is the hiking and climbing.
I did a six month lease to start with and I am so glad I did. In two months when the lease is up I am out of here and getting back to civilization.

So Ya, I
moved here a year and a half ago and I can't stand this horrid
place. Not too long ago I was gazing out my widow. Evem though I have a
view of the mountains I couldn't get over the nasty thoughts in my
mind. I had to ask my boyfriend has he ever noticed how dead this town
is. Nothing here is alive or happy. Everything is dead and if it has
any life at all it still looks dead. Who ever saw a plant that is brown
and dry but has blooming flowers??? No one is actually happy here
either. The smiles you see are soooo fake. It's only the alcohol
smiling! There is no where to go once you have done everything. All the
entertainment is the same just a different place. UGGGHHHHHHHHH!!! I
hate it here. The only thing that has kept me is the money to move and
my father is here. Once I get the chance I am out of here for good!. I
don't even want to get on the topic of the rude careless idiot drivers.
OMG
I am so
incredibly grateful that I left. I don't care if out of state
tuition is twenty thousand a year–it is worth every penny.
I googled
"I hate Las Vegas" and here I am. I moved here about two
months ago from Boston and I can't wait another minute to go home.
My wife and I packed up all our things, the dog, and took two friends for the cross country trip, and were on our way to "fabulous" Las Vegas. What a mistake. The trip alone was a disaster which should have been a good sign. I hate it.
It took all of a month to realize what a huge mistake I made. I left a $25/hr job attempting to start my own business out here. No one told me you can't do a damn thing without knowing someone here. With eleven years of experience in my field I managed to find a bullshit job for $12/hr. I'm packing my things as we speak.
No one here wants anything to do with you unless you can do something for them or they can make some money off of you. What a bunch of materialistic pieces of garbage.
The weather sucks in Boston. The prices of houses are much higher than in Vegas. But here's the thing... The people in Boston are human. They're friendly. They're respectful. There's a sense of family, friendship, morals and honor. None of which are here in Vegas.
Pardon the expression but... Fuck Vegas... I'm going home to shovel snow and be happy again.
My wife doesn't think we've given it a good enough try and I can't spend another minute here if I want to keep my sanity. All I have to say is this shit hole of a city better not jeopardize my marriage.

My first
time in Vegas was to visit my friend who moved there to go to
UNLV back in '94. I just turned 21 so I was good to go gamble even
though I wasn't (and still am not) a gambler. That got old real quick.
Within a day, I was bored. Just gambling and drinking. Nothing else!
Also learned how dry that heat & air was when I constantly kept
getting static shocks. Thank goodness I was only there for a few days.
I went a few more times with coworkers/friends/associates and unfortunately I had falling outs with them over stupid shit like where to go, why we didn't want to pay the cover for a club and other stupid stuff. Vegas made us restless, immature and hateful.
The last time I was in Vegas was about 3-4 years ago to see my friend get married in front of Elvis. It was freaking hot, traffic was horrendous (over an hour just to get from one end of the strip to the other!) I had a headache the whole time I was there. That headache disappeared when got home. Go figure. Thank goodness I did a quick turnaround trip for that--flight from OC, attend quick wedding & reception and fly back in the late afternoon.
Since then, I've turned down requests to go to Vegas, even had to turn down a friend who was celebrating his birthday cuz I didn't want another fallout to happen, didn't want to experience heat & static, and didn't want to be bombarded with debauchery that's on overload. There's nothing great about paying for overpriced rooms, food and losing more money on gambling and shows. I don't see myself ever returning there.

I agree
with just about everthing said here about how sad live is in a
place like no other - Vegas. But it seems to me that what's really
lacking is a population who is so fed up with the life there that
they'd want to MAKE change happen. The residents of Vegas have rights
and voting power. The first step is getting the families of children in
the schools to care about their childrens education enough to get
involved. In the midwest parents volunteer at schools, we teach special
needs, advanced math, coach sports, lead girl scout troops - you get
the idea. Then, you move on to coordinating neighborhood events, you
know, start with Tupperware/Pampered Chef/Jewelry parties and then
invite your neighbors over for some REAL home cooking. Life is what you
make it, and if you want respect - be respectful; if you care about
family then get involved with schools & charities; if you value
friendship then put your self out there first - invite co-workers &
neighbors over for a BBQ; if you find the morals lacking - get involved
with a church. It will only change for the better if each of you who
live there now make the effort to turn the tides of the monsoon. I've
been there to visit, my folks moved to Pahrump years ago. I rarely
bring my kids there because there is nothing interesting to see or do.
Seems to me that there is a sea of opportunity for many of you to come
together and open the best small scale family-style resturants,
neigborhood art centers that teach you to value your creative talents,
or even simply hold local public events offering afordable family
entertainments. Change is in the wind! It's depends on how hard you are
willing to blow!
The author
of the comment above knows nothing about Las Vegas. I went
to the city council to get approval to open a teen arts center. It
would feature local talent of art and music. Also would be a place to
sell their art and creations. (this was in response to LV having the
highest teen suicide /pregnacy/drug usage rates) I was turned down
repeatedly. I was given various reasons, but an insider off the record
told me. In Las Vegas nothing gets done without bribes. You have to
grease the palms of the council. LV is the most corrupt govt. in the
US, it even rivals New Orleans.
Get real! to the comment above ... You live in a fantasy world.

Wow so i
flew out to san diego ca today to take the sheriffs test.. I
LOVE SAN DIEGO culture ocean GREEN GRASS!!! wow.. then today i had to
fly back instanty bad mood grouchy headache, irritable, i mean vegas
just sucks!! its depressing in a major way the first idiot driving i
wanted to serioulsy mow over.. in san diego i didnt mind waiting two
times through a light no anger nothing NICE THOUGHTS... I HATE LAS
VEGAS..
Just got
back to Vegas from a trip to San Antonio, Texas. Every time I
come home from some place else it takes me a minute in the airport to
get used to the gratuitous show of skin on the signage and the other
people walking through. Spent a week in DC last summer, and despite the
humidity did not see one girl half naked on the Metro line. In
Vegas--such is the way of life. Note to you: if this is not your
preferred style of dress, be prepared for a shock and some distasteful
looks.
I was born and raised in Vegas. Even in locals' places girls are expected to be half naked...and easy. And if you're not...expect the guys (even local guys!) to be uninterested.
High school dropouts, the lot of them.
Moving out of here is impossible.
I can't believe I googled "I Hate Las Vegas" and actually landed on a community of people who agree!
Come to visit...there is a lot to do and deals can be found...DON'T MOVE HERE.
Its not worth it.

I cannot
tell you all how happy I am to have found this site and to see
that there are so many other people out there in the world who feel as
I do about Vegas and have enough intelligence and common sense to see
this shithole town for what it really truly is. I am absolutely
bookmarking this site. Right off the top of the bat let me say this,
most importantly of all: My heart truly and deeply goes out to some of
the posters on this site who have lost family members to this town-one
man said that his wife was tragically murdered in a home invasion
robbery, and another man said that his son was murdered by gangbangers.
I cannot begin to tell you both how deeply saddened I am for your
terrible loss, and my heart, prayers and deepest and most sincere
condolences are with you. I don't know you personally but that's not
the point-someone I'm sure you loved very deeply has been savagely,
cruelly and heartlessly ripped out of your arms for no legitimate
reason and I truly feel the pain you must be suffering through. I wish
to God I could tell you something that would make the pain go away for
you, but I can't-all I can tell you is that I am truly sorry for the
hell you have been through, my heart absolutely goes out to you, and
you are in my deepest and most heartfelt prayers.
That being said, I also agree very much with a lot of the other things people here have said; one person mentioned the fact that 7000 people move to Vegas every month but 5000 move out in that same month. How interesting that the people who are so quick to tell you about the 7000 a month moving INTO Vegas conveniently "forget" to mention the 5000 a month moving OUT. As some have already mentioned, let us not forget that Las Vegas recently ranked #57 on a list of the 378 most dangerous cities to live in in the United States-57th most dangerous, out of 378. Los Angeles was even somewhere in the high 200s or low 300's if I remember correctly, and Mission Viejo, CA was city number 378-at the bottom of the list, making it the safest city on the list. It's to the point now where you can't watch the news or read the paper in Vegas even ONE DAY without hearing about someone getting murdered somewhere in the city. I am a truck driver and have been all over this country, and I have NEVER seen ANYPLACE ELSE ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES that is as debaucherous and as wicked as Las Vegas is. Las Vegas is at or near the bottom of the list of best healthcare cities, best education cities, and best air quality cities, and now leads the nation in residential foreclosures, is number 1 in mental illness, number 1 in depression rates (among both adults and children), and number 1 in suicides (again both adults and children). Hmmm, gee, I wonder why that might be?
For those few on this blog who have been trying to spew the lie about how Vegas supposedly is so wonderful and that the only thing bad about it is the people who complain about it: There are currently 114 posts on this blog, and only 2 by people like you who think Vegas is great. That leaves still 112 people who hate this dump town. Are 112 people just a bunch of idiots? IIIII DOOOOOON'T THIIIINK SOOOO!!!! If you think Vegas is great, there are only five possible explanations for that: 1.) You are blind. 2.) You are deaf. 3.) You are stupid. 4.)Some combination of 1, 2 , and 3. Or, 5.) You've never BEEN to Vegas.
Let me add something to the completely accurate anti-Vegas sentiment I have seen on this site that I notice no one has mentioned yet, which somewhat surprises me: the cops. I have been talking on the internet lately in a couple of other blogs about the vicious, bloodthirsty cops throughout Southern Nevada who have been killing people with impunity for more than 3 decades, and getting away with it every time. I have something very shocking but absolutely true to say to all those who think Vegas is great: YOU ARE NOT SAFE ANYWHERE IN VEGAS, AT ANY TIME!!!!! YOU ARE IN GREAT PERIL OF BEING MURDERED BY THE COPS EVEN IF YOU ARE AN UPSTANDING PILLAR OF THE COMMUNITY AND A COMPLETELY LAW-ABIDING CITIZEN!!!!! They will shoot you on sight just for the sport of it. Then at the coroner's inquest (a hearing that SUPPOSEDLY is designed to determine if the cop is guilty of criminal wrongdoing at the incident), every cop in Southern Nevada who shoots someone knows that to get acquitted, when the hearing master says, "Okay, Officer Joe Blowe, what happened here?" all they have to do is say, "Your honor, Mr. or Mrs. (insert dead citizen's name here) made a 'furtive movement toward (their)waistband'" (it's the same line every cop uses at every inquest), and the hearing master says, "Oh, really? Oh, well then I guess you must have been justified then. Have a nice day, Officer Blowe, go on back to work and keep protecting us from the dangerous (translate mostly innocent and almost always unarmed, or at least not armed with anything that poses any kind of immediate threat to an officer) citizens!" In the 31years that records of the Clark County Coroner's Inquest have been kept, since 1976, ONLY ONE cop-out of nearly 200 citizen killings-has ever been found criminally negligent in the death of a citizen, and that verdict was later overthrown by the Clark County Grand Jury!!!! So effectively not one single cop has ever been held to answer criminally for the death of a citizen. Now, give me a break here. Cops are human-they fuck up just as much as the rest of us do. Are you honestly going to tell me that out of almost 200 citizen deaths, over a period of 31 years, that in not one single one of those cases was a cop ever criminally negligent? You're going to tell me that in each and every one of those situations there was NOTHING else-NO other non-lethal solution that the cop could have used to defuse the situation other than to whip out his Glock 17 9mm and start blasting away as if he was at the O.K. Corral until he had left a parking lot full of dead bodies in his wake? You know what? I may have been born at night, but it was'nt last night!!! I'm not that inanely stupid as to believe that, and I hope all you Vegas lovers out there are not that inanely stupid either. I mean, come on. Ask yourself a question: How is an teenager with his hands HANCUFFED BEHIND HIM, sitting in the back of a cop car, going to make a "furtive movement toward his waistband", AFTER he has been searched and found to be unarmed, and what could he possibly produce in that situation that poses any immediate threat to a cop's life? Yet just last spring in Las Vegas, just such a teenager in just such a situation was brutally shot and killed by Metro PIGS in the back of one of their PIGmobiles!!!! Now don't get me wrong here-if someone produces a gun and points it at the cops, I've got no problem at all with the cops blowing him or her away-I would do the same thing if I were a cop. Even if I were not a cop I would. That's completely understandable. I'm not saying the cops don't have the right to defend themselves against a REAL, IMMEDIATE, IMMINENT threat to their lives. Everyone, cop or otherwise, has the right to defend themselves, using lethal force if need be, from an imminent threat to their own safety, that of their loved ones, or their hard-earned property-that's our God-given right. But Vegas cops (and the casino security guards too-there have been documented cases of that) don't simply defend themselves-they actually go out and flat out beat the crap out of, and kill, people with no legitimate cause whatsoever. They don't even really protect the rest of the citizens of the city-in fact I had one Vegas cop one day flat-out tell me that the cops have no legal duty to protect the people, and I did'nt believe it myself until I spent the next 6 months researching the issue only to find out that he was absolutely correct-there is no city, county, state or federal law, statute, ordinance, or even one single bit of case law or legal precedent, that even remotely alludes to any legal duty on the part of the cops to protect the citizenry. In fact, since I now have some knowledge of HTML, I'm seriously contemplating coding up a website to explain further to the rest of the world why Las Vegas so badly bites monkey ass and creating an additional place where more people can come and share their Vegas horror stories, and if I do so, it will be a forum for Vegas-haters and ONLY Vegas-haters. Anyone who posts anything on that site spewing any kind of filth about how Vegas is supposedly this great city and how all of us Vegas-haters are morons who don't know our heads from our asses or our asses from a hole in the ground , will have their posts immediately removed and will be banned from the forum, and I will let them know that right up front, too. So as a closing thought, and with 100% agreement and sympathy to all you other Vegas-haters out there, let me say once again that I'm glad to be among friends, comrades-in-arms, as it were, and I'm so relieved that my 9 1/2 year nightmare that was a so-called life in HELL (I mean Las Vegas) is finally, mercifully, over and I'm back home where I belong in beautiful sunny Southern California where I'm from and where I belong. Because I'll put it to you this way: if it was a choice between sleeping under a bridge or in my car for the rest of my life in Southern California, or having a mansion and all the money I could ever need in Las Vegas and never having to be without a home ever, as much as I would despise the idea of being homeless, I'd take the pauper's life in California any day of the week and 999,999,999,999,999 (999 trillion-plus) times on Sunday!!!! God bless all of you who finally made it away from that open sewer of a town and back to a decent life, and my hopes and prayers to all those who are still there and desperately want to leave and would pack their stuff and leave this instant if they could. If the Russians or somebody decided to nuke Las Vegas tomorrow and blow it off the face of the map, it would be the greatest thing that ever happened to this country!!!!

well
said....9 1/2 years is along time in hell. I've been here 6 years
and my journey ends in 2 months. Soon I will be back home amongst a
normal civilization. The things I've seen here, and been through will
scar me for life. I truly believe this is a new age sodom and gomorrah.
No other city in the world Mocks God except Las Vegas (sin city) "what
happens in vegas stays in vegas" ONE DAY GOD WILL DESTROY LAS VEGAS..
Well,
someday something might destroy Las Vegas, but it will probably
be something tangible like global warming, asteroid strike, or
something else from reality, not imaginary beings like Thor, Zeus,
angry unicorns...or god. Ignoring my atheist diatribe, the thing I find
that I hate most about Vegas is the transient nature of everyone here.
There are very little locals, by that I mean born here. So most
everyone here is from somewhere else and with that comes cultural
isolation. There is NO sense of community. Everyone lives in their own
little cave of security and knows only a handful of people, usually
from their place of employment. Neighbors don't talk to each other.
Nobody says "hello" to strangers. And this sense of isolation keeps
people from giving a shit about each other and this leads to crime,
neighborhood degradation, etc. Also, for homeowners, there is the huge
problem of absent investors. These greedy fucks went around buying up
1/2 of the houses on the market during the boom a few years ago. They
then rent these houses out to people who can't afford to buy a home and
this generally leads to the neighborhood going to shit because the
renters don't care about a house that is not theirs. There are good
renters...I've been one. But at least 3/4 of them are from the ghetto
and don't give a shit. On my block of 14 houses, 7 are rentals. And you
can tell who is a renter and who is an owner just by looking at the
condition of the yard, their cars, etc. It sucks. I didn't pay this
much for a house to have the ghetto rent its way into my neighborhood.
I've gone back to school to finally finish my degree and have about 1-1/2 years to go. UNLV is relatively cheap and I plan on getting my undergrad degree there. The real quandary is whether I want to get my grad degree here and have to endure an extra 2-4 years in this shithole, or blow this popsicle stand and go home. If I move back home after I finish my BA, I will have to wait a year to qualify for resident tuition rates (which are still higher than UNLVs graduate school rates, even with the resident discount.) I'm not sure if I can take 6 more years of living here. But then again, I have to wait until the housing market turns around. I can only cross my fingers and hope that the neighborhood stays nice enough that my house appreciates and can sell when the time comes to break for freedom.

I went to
Vegas to get married. Being from the midwest and always
seeing the glorious lights on the TV and all they hype. I had to see it
for myself. It was really rediculus. You pay all this money for
services and tips after you pay a crazy amount to begin with. The
flight in and out of the city is enough to make you never fly again. It
is the most turbulance I have ever experianced. Just awful. The card
flickes are so anoying and the disqusting paper boxes have nothing but
porn in them. Everyone is out for one thing and one thing only. MONEY.
A bunch of money hungry selfish people. Maybe if you have serious
mental issues you would live there. Otherwise. Who in there right mind
would? Who really wants to get married by Elvis? Seriously...
I myself
feel sick when I have to return to Vegas from another state.
I've lived here for 16 years, and a it literally makes me want to cry
when I think that I still have at least 3 more years before I can leave
this shit hole that I've called home for the better half of my life.
It's ugly, and this town has really nothing to offer. I want to live
somewhere with the beach, four seasons, and some historical culture
behind it, not a brown dumpy wasteland with a bunch of materialistic
stuck up their ass snobs.
I spent a
year living in the above ground septic tank known as Las
Vegas. The people there for the most part lack anything resembling
class or decency. I was never happier than when I saw those neon lights
getting smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror. If you are there,
get out before you set down roots. If you are thinking of going, DON'T.
The people who tell you how wonderful it is either do not live there or
are lying.
I moved
here straight out of college 5 years ago and it has been a
great place to start and focus on my career but that is about it. I
thank God that now that all of my loans and credit cards are paid off I
can finally start putting some money in the bank. The first priority is
to save enough to quit my job and get the hell out of here.
I believe in the concept that people are shaped and affected by their environment and I am worried that Vegas is turning me into an uptight, hyper tensioned, jerk. Getting anything done here is always a hassle, from waiting for 3 hours at the DMV for license plates to the 45 minutes I spend to drive the 7 action packed miles to work, I have lived in much larger cities where things seem to move so much faster and smoother. Somewhere, somehow, things in the city are frighteningly out of balance. I do not know if it is the influx of illegal aliens, who seem to love it here, or what, but it feels like everything from grocery stores to municipalities are overcrowded and overwhelmed and it continues to get worse day by day. It has been 5 years since I moved here and I’ve had enough. In six months I’m packing up and moving to the coast, where there is green grass and water. For those thinking about moving here please take the following and all of the posts into severe consideration…
It is indeed true that Las Vegas is home to some of the rudest people in America, but it is no wonder. The landscape is harsh, callus, and unforgiving and thus so are the people who live here. I hope to keep myself from becoming one of them.
If you think you are going to simply move here and jump into a casino job on the strip think again. Many of the good jobs require knowing someone, or someone knowing you to land the gig. It doesn’t happen overnight. Also, do not forget about the whole process of obtaining a “sheriffs card”. If you can’t get into one of the casinos and have to take a quick food service job, that will also require a “health card”. Neither are terribly expensive, but do require time (sort of like sitting for hours at the DMV with the newly arrived scum of the earth) and money and are a pain in the rear. If you are a young white collar professional and will be working in an office then good for you, but make sure you take whatever salary you figured you would be making and cut it in half, especially for those of you coming from California. Also make sure you have that office job lined up before you get here.
I get the impression from other people I have met from around the country that Vegas is a cheap place to live. That was likely true years ago, before the boom, but now we paying big city rates to live in a giant suburb. Car registration, gasoline, rents, food insurance, and even entertainment and concerts are considerably more expensive than most other large cities and to add insult to injury, we are not even a “big city” more like an overgrown suburb.
Due to the isolation of this town, you will get “island fever” after the first few months of living here. It begins to feel like there is no other world outside of this little bubble of Las Vegas and that is a scary thing to feel. Luckily, my job requires some travel so I can be reminded of how normal people live, and that there is indeed still a world outside of this awful cesspool.
You will likely see more car accidents and mangled bodies in the first few years of living here than in all of the years you have spent in you hometown. In 5 years here I have seen some freighting things, some which will stick with me maybe forever. I saw a girl get hit by a car on Tropicana that was traveling at 50 mph. Also witnessed a motorcycle crash scene where a human leg was laying in the middle of the street. Simply too many fender benders and car accidents to even keep track of. It seems like I see an accident or two every day.
If you move out here with your girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband… whatever, expect there to be major issues in your relationship after the move. From my experience and the experience of my friends here, a lot of couples seem to break up shortly after relocating here. Not sure why, but it seems to be the trend.
Lastly, if you do not heed the warnings on this site and still insist on moving to Las Vegas, you better make sure you do it soon. We are running out of water and within the next few years I predict the “imaginary belt” around the valley that Dina Titus was pushing several years ago will become a reality, if not a mass exodus out of here. It is a serious that needs to be addressed. The cowboys who run the Southern Nevada Water Authority seem clueless but it is possible that there is no solution.
For a long time I felt trapped because I was worried that I would not be able to find a job as good as the one I have now if I leave Las Vegas. But I have realized that I would rather be earn less and live in peace than spend one more year in this joke of a “city”.

Vegas is
much like a Snicker Bar.. It's rarely as good as you think
it's going to be, it's quite often stale, ..and it's full of nuts.
This place
is the WORST! I am not here by choice, hubby is airforce.
Even the base SUX! Everything is always overcrowded, the people are
downright RUDE, stupid and sleazy, no one knows HOW to drive-everyone
tailgates-there's constant car accidents, the crime is ridiculous, the
unemployment rate is HIGHER than the rest of the nation, identity theft
is the highest here, there is no weather here-just wind, the news
always says, "we're having a drought"-No its not a drought, its a
DESERT here, almost no rain, but the enviromental issues don't seem to
matter, since there's constant construction of new houses and hotels,
its TOO expensive and its uglier than hell I can't wait to leave!
This town
smells like a sewer threw up. From Sahara / Boulder HWY to
Desert Inn / LVBLVD, it stinks. Why? I remember a few years ago the
city council actually paid a team of cleaners to investigate and get
rid of the stench downtown. They took care of it, but it seems to have
simply moved several blocks south. I thought it was nasty.
Ive lived
in Vegas for 19 years, my whole family lives here. We dont go
to the strip, Nobody in my family takes drugs and we are not addicted
to gambling. My wife runs a buisness here and I work as a process
server. Love the town even after its growth and tons of newcomers. I
drive around 500 miles a week in town, ive seen my share of bad drivers
but not as bad as a third world countrie. Maybe its because I grew up
here but everyone posting on this page complaining just sounds like a
bunch of little girls crying because the town is not what "they"
expected. I hope all of you do get out of "hell" more room for everyone
else who likes it here. Ive lived in Cairo, Egypt for about 3 or 4
years of my life in the early 90's that was hell. You crybabies just
dont know how good you have it in the states in any city period.
LOL AT THE
IDIOT ABOVE. I'm intrested in what possesed you to make a
post on an I HATE LAS VEGAS BLOG. Yup I quess all of us are a bunch of
crybabies, and we don't know what were talking about. Las Vegas
attracts fool's and crazy people, you fit in just fine.
Really, I
googled a hospital name I was searching for and just came
across this "I hate Vegas blog" on accident. I really feel "most" not
all of the posters here came to Vegas with higher expectations then
what they got out of the city-sorry just my opinion. Yeah there is a
lot of crazies here I deal with the lot of them everyday, but I still
wouldnt choose anywhere else to call home.
Keep it
rolling, found it the same way ya'll did by typing in "i hate
las vegas" in google. I'm a public employee and I have 1 more year
until I'm "vested" in the retirement system. After that I think I'm
out. I hate the bars as your constantly confronted with gambling
machines. I hate the strip as you have to contend with the tourists. No
seasons or really any dynamic weather. I have a great job and work with
great people but I just don't think I can justify spending my life
here.
Housing, still overpriced. Cost of everything expensive. Maybe I should just hull up in my apartment for a year or two and avoid all the temptations in this town. God, what a boring place.

Hi, I live
in Las Vegas and can tell you that this would be an awesome
place to live if it weren't for all of the messed up people who move
here. It seems like it just filling up with low life scum, white trash,
and Mexicans. There is a shortage of open minded, educated,
intellectual people here. I guess it is because you do not need any
brains to work in this town. Most of there jobs are construction or
service industry related. I try not to complain much about all of the
casinos, smut, and heat. It is Las Vegas, I knew what I was signing up
for, but I just expected a little more culture and sophistication among
the locals.
what a
shocker las vegas ranked number 1 MOST DANGEROUS CITY FIVE YEARS IN A
ROW LOL GET REAL VEGAS SUCKS!!!!!

5 years in
a row! Nevada is ranked the most dangerous place to be in
the nation. Nowhere else in the country are there more robberies or
cars stolen. But one of the main reasons we are the most dangerous
state is our HIGH ranking for murders.
Some valley neighborhoods that many thought were safe are now seeing more crime than ever.
The newest report by Congressional Quarterly rates Nevada the most dangerous state to live in ,a claim residents living here would agree with as they find themselves victims of crimes.
"My son walks home from the bus. I don't feel safe anymore. He is not allowed to do that, he's not allowed to go outside and ride his bike. His school, there's been letters sent home regarding people trying to kidnap children on their way to school," said Amber Casteel.
Living in Southern Highlands for five years, Casteel felt safe until her home was broken in to, but that's not all she and William Crock have had to face.
"The grocery store started to have armed guards and you would hear the gaming machines had been robbed. Then I started to hear oh a neighbor around the corner their house got broken into," he said.
But the final scare came when a man was found murdered nearby. Now both want to get away from the area even the state. NICE!

Las Vegas
never really "feels" dangerous. I usually can walk down any
street in town without feeling like I should look over my shoulder, but
in the news you see that is clearly not the case. People are being
murdered in "nice" neighborhoods left and right. The crimes committed
here seem to be so random and careless. Its really sad.
RANT - I
am sick of people who think it is ok to take a shopping cart
from the store becasue they are too lazy to carry out what they buy.
Get a car you lazy jerks! I love the sense of entitlement these people
have that they think they can just take whatever they want. If you are
going to take the shopping cart home with you, at least return it. Dont
just leave it sitting out in front of the apartment complex you crawled
out of. I hate the people who live here. This town is full of low lifes
who think it is ok to steal shopping carts.
Recent
nationwide survey lists Las Vegas as the metro area in the US with the
highest rate of suicide.
Oh yes it
DOES in fact STINK! Its the pig farm! That stomach churning
toilet smell is pig dookie! I thought it smelled bad a few days ago and
the temp was only in the high 70's. Yeah that funk du jour will get
better when its 130 this summer.
And with all seriousness here, why can't the water district do SOMETHING to make the water better?! Its so hard, the dishes never ever look clean and the smell of chlorine makes me not want to bathe. What happens to the water as it makes its way thru Utah? Is it all the drugged up Mormons?

I feel
your pain but based on the way things are going, we're lucky to have
any water at all out here.
Neighborhoods
that appear nice and reasonably affordable turn ghetto
quicker than you can say fa-shizzle my dizzle..........
WOW. I
have to agree with all of you, I have lived in Las Vegas about 6
years and it is the worst place I have ever been to, and I have
traveled all around the world.
Las Vegas is unlike any other city, it defintily has no culture what-so-ever, and your lucky if one out ten people are nice to you. I can't wait untill I get the Fuck out this hellhole. Seriously, the only way you can deal with Las Vegas is if you are Drunk or High all of the time. If your planning on moving to Vegas I hope you want to spend alot of time in the casino's because thats all you can do. All movie theaters are in Casions, there's no community centers to go to because there is no community, theres really nothing to do "outdoorsy" in Las Vegas because there is no outdoors. Trust me if your not from Las Vegas you WILL HATE it. Sorry I know Im going on for a long time but Las Vegas = HELL I guarantee you.

I escaped
from that shit hole last August after suffering for 2
miserable years in that mistake. I used to dream of the day I would
watch that cesspool in the rear view mirror and I have to say that it
was one of the most glorious sights of my life. My phrase to describe
Las Vegans was always "stupid and rude" and every last one of them can
burn in hell as far as I am concerned. It gives me a special pleasure
to hear how much the real estate market has collapsed on those self
centered greedy little pricks. Please let a natural disaster destroy
that little corner of hell.
Wow, I
wish I had seen this site before me and my fiance moved to
vegas. I grew up in so cal and moved to northern nevada in 2003, it was
great. I met my husband to be there and had a great job. He had always
wanted to move to las vegas and I thought why not? The move to tahoe
went better than expected, how bad could it be to move to southern
nevada? BIG mistake!!! I left my job thinking that there had to be tons
of jobs here and the prospect of buying and affording a house was very
inviting.
I have been here for 6 months now and can't get a decent paying job. This really is a place for lost dreams. And I willingly moved here for what? Sneezing attacks all day long because of all the pollen? NO!
We are trying to make it work, but deep down I have a feeling we will be back to tahoe or somewhere else within the next year. Especially since every day my hate grows for this disgusting place. Even more everytime I watch the news. How many bad things happened today? Did another car run into someone's house again? Who was robbed at gun point today? I HATE VEGAS!!!

Calling
Las Vegas a shit hole is an insult to shit holes. When I first
moved there one of my wifes co-workers told me that "Las Vegas is a
place where people with very little education can come and earn a
decent living". That was code for "People here are dumb as bricks". The
entire populace is basically a bunch of servants and whores. The
general rule is that if it doesn't affect business on the strip it
doesn't matter. Crime only matters if it scares tourists. In a nut
shell, Las Vegas is the worlds skanky booty call.
Haha I am
so glad I found this I hate Vegas blog. OH MY GOD DO I HATE
VEGAS. The first and only time I went I was pretty much forced to go
and I wanted to visit my friend who has recently moved there(feel sorry
for him). I though, hey I'll just go and give it a chance. I enjoy the
occasionally drunken wild nights. The moment we walked out of the
airplane I wanted to blow my head off. IT WAS LIKE THE PITS OF HELL-SO
FREAKIN HOTTT. My skin felt like it was going to crack off. I have to
admit the first night was fun and okay. Not because of the cultural or
people but because I was wasted, I had to in order to calm my nerves in
this hellish place. The next day I woke up and was like uhhhhhhh.....I
do not want to go out and do the same thing again and again. I layed by
the pool the whole day pretty much and thankfully I had one friend
there with me who was also like this place sucks. After laying around
at the pool for hours we strolled around-too sick to eat. Everything is
fake, cheap looking, sex orientated and there is nothing to do BUT drink.
I am a drinker but for some reason I just wanted nothing to do with the
"strip." One night of dumb ass "clubs" was enough for my ass. I am more
of a whole in the wall, everyone knooows your name bar girl. I dont do
the clubbin thing because I associate it with horrible tacky people
wearing tons of cologne and tight shiny shirts. I would have rather
went to florida or something where I could lounge on a beach and at
least the scenary is nice and REAL. I gambled only for the free drinks
on the slot machines. That occupied me for about 20 minutes before I
wanted to die. On day 3, i could not drink anymore liquor or my liver
would have failed. Me and my friend ended up finding a liquor store and
just buying booze there instead of paying $23 dollars for a freakin
drink. We only had 2 more days to sustain. I honestly called my mom and
told her to find me a ticket back to home. I spent the next two days
tanning in the extreme heat, eating eating eating and drinking at our
hotel. All of my friends started feeling the way we felt on day 3. We
stayed at the Circus Circus cause it was the cheapest place on the
strip. It was a cool place to stay-you know since I spent a majority of
the 5 days 4nights there. The weird thing is I am usually the "party"
girl and outgoing and all that crap. Vegas literally brought out a
depressive side of me. I honestly had a hard time leaving the hotel
room. WOW THIS GOT LONG. But I felt I had to justify myself and not
feel like I was judging to harshly. I know what it feels like for
people to hate your hometown because I was born and raised in Detroit
and people seem to hate detroit. I kissed the ground, literally, when we
got off to plane and we were home. The whole reason this rant came
about is that my roomate and some of our friends our leaving for vegas
tomorrow and I REFUSED to go. I told them It wasnt for me. I'm not into
all the fakeness and cheap sex. OK OVERALL I WILL NEVER EVER EVER GO
HERE AGAIN. Detroit looks like freakin xanadu compared to vegas.
What is
that smell in Las Vegas? Its not in every neighborhood, but it
is in many. Someone told me it was the wash , but I even smelled it in
Henderson, no wheres near the wash . Damn this place stinks.
Ditto the
girl from Detroit's comments. I just got back from a bachelor
party in Vegas. And I found the place to be a cultural black hole. The
scent of Vegas is cheap cologne and cigar smoke. The tourists are
either young and all dressed the same - bimbos and himbos - or older
and poorly dressed/white trash looking. I especially liked the young
parents strolling their kids through the smoke filled casinos and down
the trash strewn Strip way after bedtime...Yeah, Vegas is the new
Disney World, right.
Anyway the guys I went with were all about 10 years my junior and single/no kids. I'm married and in my later 30's with 3 little ones. I thought that was why I had a bad time, but I honestly love to travel and party so I'm glad I found, via Google, other folks who are too intelligent or cultured to believe the hype about Vegas.
I couldn't justify the $300 a head table service charge for LAX so I stayed home. Every night I would get bombed early and get into bed early; I paid for this the following day with nothing to do during the daylight hours; Virginia may be for lovers, but Vegas is for vampires. I don't have a gambling addiction so the sports book means nothing to me. We stayed at the Palms, surprise, surprise, and I was struck by the ugliness of the whole city as viewed from my high rise room...the rooftops are all flat and black...the city from there looks like a giant parking lot...which would have been a better use of space if you ask me.
My buddies drank all night and slept all day...so I stayed in the hotel watching crap tv and staring at the walls just wishing the whole miserable trip to be over. Vegas brought out the depressive side of me, too. I just felt like I was wasting my time and money in a place that was all plastic and tacky and so hypersexual it was ridiculous...I guess this is where swingers and sexual deviants go to vacation, yuck.
From now on, if I want to get my party on, I'm going to New Orleans, if I want to gamble, AC is more my taste and speed, not to mention it has a beach and fresh air. And if I want to live a fantasy, I'll keep going back to Disney World, where the buildings may be fabricated, but the people and the feelings invoked are genuine.

Without a
doubt Las Vegas, Nevada is the armpit of the United States.
And a smelly one at that. I have been to a lot of cities and Las Vegas
is nothing but a whore town. Anyone thinking of moving here? Please,
take my advice and DON'T DO IT! Spending a few days is Las Vegas is
MUCH DIFFERENT than living here. It's not so much the heat, it's the
illusion of Las Vegas. Phoenix is hot, but it's just a "normal" city
without the 24/7 booze, gaming, etc. Las Vegas reminds me of a old
Western movie with the false front buildings and nothing inside. It's a
facade. Las Vegas is an enigmatic city... diminutive for sure. I always
wondered why there is such a teacher shortage out here... well, half
who come leave within two years. Gee, I do wonder why. Clark county
will give you a $2,000 bonus if you are a new teacher. Some bonus... it
will cost that much just to rent a truck if you are coming from the
Midwest or East. Some bonus. Most professional people have the brains
not to move out here, or leave shortly after making a bad decision to
move here. Because most educated people simply will not put up with
this piece of shit place called Las Vegas. I worked for the Catholic
schools. Even they are fucked up in Las Vegas. It's scandel this and
scandel that. The turnover of teachers is ABSURD! It's always
something. If you get a provisional teaching certificate from Nevada
it's only for two years. And there is only one public school system out
here and it's Clark County (one of the worst in the nation). Good luck
Clark County. If you don't gamble, smoke, or drink much you run out of
things to do very quickly. For the sake of God I could not and would
not raise a family in this hell hole. There is no sense of belonging,
everyone is hidden behind sun glasses, people are fake, and the
driving. I have never seen so many traffic accidents in my life! How
the hell can you run into someone/something when there is NO weather,
no rain, no fog, the roads are new with three lanes of traffic. If I
honestly had to stay in Las Vegas I would jump out a window. But be
careful if you say that in public... there is an insane state law that
they will put you on a mental hold in a hospital for four days. This
whole city is insane. In the end what did I get for my mid-life crisis.
I had a decent job, but wanted to try something different. Wow, what a
mistake. Two years too long in Vegas. It cost $2,000 dollars plus $800
gas to get out here and now another move to get out of here. One day
soon Las Vegas is going to suffer because why would any intelligent
person want to move here. So few people go to college out here and even
if they make thru high school what value is a diploma from Clark
County. Culture? Forget it. Belonging? Forget it. Friendly people?
Forget it. Health care? I feel sorry for any educated health
professional to live in Las Vegas. Forget it. Intelligent people?
Forget it. The intelligent people are the foxy son-of-a-bithes who run
the casinos. Weather? Forget it. It's either too hot, too cold, or too
windy. That ball of fire called our sun does get a wee bit tiresome
when you see it every single day. Give me some variety in the weather.
What can you possibly do when it's over a 100 degrees in summer? I
might have winter back. Why do they pay the weathercasters? It's the
sdame day in and day out. If hear that stupid desert doppler rader for
a drop of rain one more time! The housing? It's stucco, stucco, and
more stucco. Walled in cinder block walls all over the place. Zoo? That
thing on Rancho is called a zoo? Come on, it's a joke. Don't even get
me statred on the tacky wedding chapels, the tourists the strip, Elvis
impersonaters, the homeless, always having spare change for the beggars
an every corner, etc., etc., etc. Well, I had to rant and I had to
rave. Most of the people here are the nouveau rich or broke. See the
movie 21? Well, thats what Las Vegas is... cold, heartless, uncaring.
It's a ludicrous place. Well, that is my tirade. I am putting the old
condo up for sale in a real estate market flooded with wanna-be
risk-takers and people foreclosed upon because they were too stupid to
read thier contracts. I'm outta this thing called Las Vegas. I too want
to see the neon crap fade in my rearview mirror. All these people on
this site can't be wrong. Two years in Vegas is more than a sane person
can take. The "old" Vegas of the El Cortez, Sands, etc. died a long
time ago. There is nothing romantic about Vegas anymore. My sanity is
coming back after a horrible decision to move to Las Vegas. Sanity.
PRICELESS! GOOD BYE LAS VEGAS!
Seriously?
Is there a single normal place to get a drink and meet a
norman person in this town? What the hell are all these people doing
walking around and going nowhere? I'm here only a few days every month
for work but I can't for the life of me figure out what all of these
crazy looking, seemingly justified, straight out of a bad 80's movie
(they were all bad) looking, walking dead, poor bastards are doing.
Spend one day in any European city and you'll wonder what could
possibly make so many Europeans want to visit this wasteland. My lips
are chapped and so is my ass from the turbulence on the ride in. Au
Revoir!
I had been
to Las Vegas numerous times before, mostly to see concerts
at the MGM Arena. But this trip was different. I felt sick most of this
trip - the lights dizzying, the constant messages of "buy girls,"
"gamble," "drink," etc. I thought I was the only person in Vegas who
didn't enjoy this atmosphere. Thanks for sharing your stories.
Las Vegas isn't all bad and I agree with posters who say it isn't right to judge a city by the strip. But the culture on the surface and on the strip is just too much for me. Everyone wants your money...and it is designed to make it easy to hand it over.

to respond
to the tijuana post actually tijuana is about 1/2 a step
above las vegas nv at least the people are up front about whats up in
tj and their is a beach playas de tijuana and san diego is right across
the border so las vegas ranks below tijuana and about 1/4 step above
the worst place ever texas <--- F texas!!!
Just
returned from a business training trip to Las Vegas. My take?
Vegas is the absolute bottom rung of American culture. It's truly a
shame that one of the attendees of the training session I attended was
from Zambia and this was his first trip to the US.
I just
moved here a month and a half ago due to my husband getting stationed
here.
I tried to have a good attitude about moving here even though I was dreading it inside.
The main thing thst bothers me is how unfriendly everyone is!
I came from Texas and there we smile at people and them smile back! Hell you can even strike up a conversation with a stranger and leave a friend!
I guess you either love it here or hate it.
Personally .... I hate it.

now. Staying at the Monte Carlo. This really is the worst
place I've ever been to in the world and thats saying something since
I've travelled all over the place. How 'Vegas' got a reputation as a
fun vacation destination is beyong me. The hotels are very poor, the
'strip' looks like a cross between a building site and some naff
shopping centre. Tonight I went to see Mystere at Treasure Island, I
should have chucked $80 in the drain, what a load of tosh. and the
other people here are just frightening, fat sad looking families,
skinny sluts waiting to get banged up and lots of weird gamblers
twitching and shouting to themselves. I actually don't want to leave
the hotel anymore. Unfortunatley I've one day left here, I think I'll
stay in my room and watch daytime TV, now that says it all.
My husband
and I just got back from a 4 day stay in Vegas today. Let me
say the best part was planning the trip. I don't know how many times in
the 4 days I was there I would have hopped on the first plane home had
we not been with friends. We went because the prepaid trip was
relatively cheap. Well, cheap ended as soon as the reservations were
made. Never in my life have I seen such overpriced worthless crap! The
worst part is people bring their kids to this place for a vacation.
Never would I subject my kids to this trashy place, nor would I ever
subject myself to it again. Had we not seen Sully Erna at the Hard Rock
Casino's Joint, I would have called this a total wasted trip! 2 plane
tickets to Vegas - $400, 3 nights stay at the Excalibur - $225, a
rental car -$150, and a bunch of overpriced white trash atmosphere = 4
days in absolute hell!!!
You think
visiting Las Vegas is dismal, try living here. The place is
hot as hell, plants, and people are prickly and painful, and if I never
see another fake boob again it will be too soon. Crime here is world
class and permeates every institution, even churches. Education is not
on the state agenda because otherwise how would casinos get people to
park cars, carry trays, and flip cards? Does anyone read in this town?
recycle? walk, bike, or use public transportation? And yes, there is a
definite sewer smell to Vegas, I think it has to do with the P-traps
drying out, that and the plastic bag trees, a sure sign of spring. I
think all the heat fries people's brains here either that or they are
incapable of independent thought - oooh, what a concept- 98% payback on
slots - so you are consistently loosing 2%. Yeah, maybe gambling is
just a tax on people who can't do math and Las Vegas does not exactly
attract the brightest bulbs on Broadway. Thanks for the opportunity to
comment.
Vegas
truly is a stanky ass town. My husband and I just got back from
there. He contracted pink eye from one of the strippers.
Nice. I
hate vegas. I hate it so much I googled it. I consider myself
intelligent, so I figured there must be others who felt like I do. I
was right. LV is a shit hole that attracts the scum of the earth who
couldnt make it where they're from & are looking for an easy buck.
It's really sad. My daughter's father moved there a few years ago and
it has ruined him. He wasn't that great to begin with, but Vegas has
really brought the worst out of him. He's mean, aggressive, rude, has a
chip on his shoulder, sarcastic and just plain stupid. He has lost a
lot of brain cells living there. I can't even hold an intelligent
conversation with him anymore because he's completely out of touch with
anything going on in the real world. Anything below 60 degrees is cold
to him. He lives in the Vegas bubble. Horrible things have happened to
him while living there including being robbed at gun point. He's
scarred for life and will never be the same. He can't get back what
Vegas has taken from him. Now he wants to leave but cant. He's stuck in
the quick sand that is Vegas. He'll probably die there. Soon. Thanks
for this blog, it reinforced what I already knew to be true. The Devil
built Las Vegas. And he collects lost souls there. It seems by the
posts that a lot of intelligent people hate Vegas. I think a lot of
stupid people like it.
"He's
mean, aggressive, rude, has a chip on his shoulder, sarcastic and just
plain stupid."
You've just described the average Las Vegan. That's what they're all like.
You've just described the average Las Vegan. That's what they're all like.
The only
people who live here and enjoy are the pricks who are making
money. Everyone else is getting sucked dry and broke. When I came here
I was the friendly dude from Ohio. Now a year later, I am like the rest
of the people I meet here. Broke, angry and mean and know why they are
that way too. My advice? Join the army and go to Iraq. At least the
fuckers who shoot at you over there will smile while doing it.
LOL
YOU ALL ARE ALL RIGHT.
EXCEPT THEY ONE WITH THE JEWELRY PARTY.
ALL I GOT TO SAY ABOUT THAT IS HOPE YOU ALL GOT BULLETPROOF WINDOWS AND BULLETPROOF VEST ON.

my god...
I didn't realize that there were people that felt the same exact way as
I do!
I hate this town (and I call it a town, because it's not a real city).
There is no real entertainment. There is no arts community. There are no museums or zoos or community theatres or anything. There is no music scene. We only get washed-up has-beens here.
There are two seasons: REALLY FUCKING HOT and warm. I miss cooling rain, wonderful snow storms, and beautiful foliage. There is only sun and plenty of it.
This is the only city I have ever been to (except maybe LA) where people NEED a car. The public transportation is a joke and everything is too far spread out to walk to.
All of the movie theatres are inside of goddamn casinos.
There are no farmers markets... or anything other than chain supermarkets.
There are no fairs or carnivals. As corny as they are, they're fun lol.
The schools are shit. NV is second or dead last when it comes to education.
There is no sports!
The tap water tastes like shit.
The locals are retards.
I miss being able to take a day-trip to another city/state.
At first I thought it was cool that you could buy booze anywhere and drink and smoke anywhere, but I don't smoke anymore and I rarely even drink lol.
I FUCKING HATE THIS PLACE AND HAVE TO REMIND MYSELF THAT WE'RE MOVING IN A YEAR OTHERWISE I WILL GO INSANE AND BE DEPRESSED 24/7. sorry for all the caps but I just can't adequately express my hatred for this place

I retired
several years ago and came very close to moving to Vegas. I
had been going there off and on, over the years, staying in the
casino's, and Vegas seem like a great town. THEN I was lucky enough to
talk to a friend, who was living in Vegas (he had retired many years
earlier.) He said he hated the place but was locked-in/priced-in with
his home and family and now couldn't really move back to California.
For two days he showed me around another side of Vegas, and OMG it was
an eye opener. He made a statement to the effect that Vegas was OK as
long as you were doing well...but if you ever got down in that
town...there was no safety nets and you stayed down and out. He didn't
like the medical care and or services either. I talked with another
retired couple from NY, the husband had tried working but son
discovered, that once you got past all the lights and glitter, it
wasn't "all that" and the wages were low. I still go and ejoy the town.
Maybe, Vegas is a great place to retire for some folks. If moving to
Vegas has worked out for you, then I think that is GREAT. However, I
will take my chaces here in messed-up California and just continue to
visit Las Vegas and Reno as time and money allow me to. At least CA is
the devil that I do know.

Well there
you have it. Now you know what kind of uneducated low life
actually likes living in the hell hole called Las Vegas. This is a
prime example of why I got the hell out and will never set foot in that
pit of stupid and rude assholes again.
I agree
with above. And this is what he's is doing @ 1:46 in the morning in
Vegas? On a I hate Las Vegas blog. Okay then.
To the blog
up there... if you are born and raised in Las Vegas you
have my blessing. That is why you are the uneducated moron you are. You
belong extactly where you are and please stay there.
Wow, a new museum about the mob will open soon in Las Vegas! What culture! Las Vegas is a ludicrous place to live and some 170 blogs prove what is already fact. Las Vegas sucks.

I could
not agree more. If you thinking to moving to Las Vegas for any
reason don't do it! You will regret it the rest of your life.
ROFL I
couldn't help but to laugh at the post directly after the
Internet gangster made his intimidating threats. I lived in hell (Las
Vegas) for 6 years every day I pray and I thank God for getting me out
of there. I'm not going to elaborate on the Why Las Vegas is the way it
is. Because it's all been said already. Instead I want to focus on how
Vegas changes you. I want to thank the Internet Gangster for bringing
me back to my post traumatic stress I developed over there. I remember
running into Idiots Like him all the time and thinking to myself where
am I? Why are these people acting like That? And why Am I SURROUNDED by
fools and crazy people? You might think it sounds Judgmental but no
this is sadly, reality over there. I remember Maintaining Mental
Stability was a key issue for me. You see when you’re surrounded by
Wolves, Fools, theifs, gypsys, whores and everything else that Vegas
has to offer you began to become desensitized thus developing a cold
heart, you become anti social (unless you choose to conform and adapt)
you can't trust anybody Your very soul is being Tortured and slowly you
began to lose yourself, and then the Dark side comes out. The reason
for this is because your mind decides FLIGHT OR FIGHT if you choose
Flight, Good for you, you were smart. If you choose to stay and Fight
as I did for 6 years be prepared for thoughts, words and actions you
never even dreamed of. It's a matter of survival and it gets ugly out
there, of course the million dollar question. What Lessons are to be
learned from these experiences? Let me share my Lessons. You can't
speak Logic and reasoning to fools or crazy people they don't have the
mental comprehension to understand it. So in other words learn to quite
your mind and don't waste your energy on trying to figure out or
rationalize why these people are so dysfunctional. Another invaluable
lesson is I will never again take for granted my homeland or the simple
things in life, like real trees, the rain, the snow, and the very Fresh
Air I breathe. My Advice to people living there is DON'T CONFORM, DON'T
ADAPT. Hang in there; I want to express my condolences to those living
in Vegas now. I know your suffering, I know you feel Isolated, and I
know you’re feeling like the very presence Of God Is missing. But God
is there, it’s just a Test of FAITH. Learn To surrender, Learn to
submit to him. He will guide you out of HELL. AMEN and GOD BLESS
"How do
you save someone from Las Vegas?"
The same way you would save someone from a pit of venomous snakes. Get them the hell out of there.

I have been in Las Vegas for around two months. Was moved
out here for a career step-up in the soft economy. I despise it here.
There is zero sense of community and only one dominant industry. I work
in gaming and have never encountered such uneducated people. I am not
an elitist and am happy dealing with a cross-section of individuals. I
have never seen full on contempt for higher education in a professional
setting. Cultural wasteland.
I've read
all the comments posted here and I couldn't agree more. I've
lived in Las Vegas since 1991 or 1992, it's been so long I can even
remember now. I moved here from the midwest when I was a kid so I've
attended public schools and I can say without a doubt that they are the
worst in the nation. They are just basically holding cells for future
casino workers until they turn 21. A few students get lucky and go off
to college out of state, hopefully they will never return. I just went
to my 10 year high school reunion this summer and it seems that most of
the people that I went to school with have the same opinion as I do.
They want to leave Las Vegas and never return but are stuck here by one
way or another. I never went to college after high school but I'm going
to college now. I'd have to say that not going to college was probably
one of the worst mistakes of my life but I'm working on fixing that.
I've realized that in order to escape Las Vegas that I need an
education to support my family since my only skills set is in the
gaming industry. Enough about schools though.
Working in a casino, I can say without a doubt that it brings out the worst in people. You get so comfortable making a decent wage that you stop trying to better yourself. I can't speak for every casino worker. I'm sure there are some of them that actually like their jobs. For me, however, I've come to despise every minute that I'm at work. To give you a little background, I work in casino surveillance so I see just about everything. I used to be a decent person but I'm realizing that the darker side of me is coming out more. I sometimes feel as though I have no compassion for anyone and no passion for anything. It seems that I only now care about who's winning/losing and how much. Granny just blew her medication money on penny slots? Tough, thanks for the paycheck lady. See what I mean? I simply don't care any more and it isn't a good thing. My only respite is the fact that once I leave I can come home to my wife and daughter. Being with them allows me to achieve a balance of sorts. This town seems to bring out the dark side in everyone.
I just got back from vacation with my wife and daughter. We went to the midwest to see family and I can say that I was tempted to not get back on the plane. Everything was better there. The food, the people, the vibe in general were all spot on. For the time that I was there, I felt alive. It was as if an empty void in my life had been filled. Now that I'm back, I'm feeling that void again. This city is a wasteland and the people are just hollow.
There is no culture here and outdoor activity is limited at best. Who wants to go outside when it's 110 degrees out? My wife and I can't even sit outside in the evening some days because it's still too hot. In the winter, the north winds constantly blow so it sucks to be outside then. There are few cloudy days. I think that you need some dreary day to balance out the sunny days, a yin-yang type of thing. When it rains I always go outside to watch it because I don't know when I'll see rain again. Everything here is brown and looks dead. It has an effect on you. Food starts to lose it's taste, music starts to lose it's feeling, everything seems to go flat.
The new residents are always fun to listen to. They always talk about how boring it was where they came from or that the winters were too cold. They don't know what their missing and they don't know what their in for. I just smile at them and tell them "Welcome to Las Vegas". In the back of my mind I'm thinking that they are in for a rude awakening. A lot of locals say there is a 5, 10, & 15 year threshold for moving out of Las Vegas. Most people live in Vegas for at least five years and then contemplate moving and so on. I've been here too long and I'm past the 15 year mark, I wonder if there is a 20 year mark?
Enough of my rant. If, after reading this, you still want to move to Las Vegas, consider yourself warned. Stay away. If you have a family, stay far away. Everything in this town sucks. The jobs, the housing, the food, the people, they all suck. Las Vegas will suck the life out of you.

30-year
mark for me mate. (Virtually my whole life.. I'm not THAT old
;O) The thing is the Vegas of the 70's and 80's was a lot different
(and nicer) from the town of the 90's and onwards..
This place now? ..I barely recognize it. And it isn't the skyline or buildings that have changed the most.. It's the people.

I'm moving
to Las Vegas. I will be working at the Detention Center in
North Las Vegas. Any suggestions? I will be looking for a place to stay
that is close to the jail....Please advise of the area. Thank You
Most
people here seemed to have googled “I hate Las Vegas” and found
this forum but I made it here a backwards way by reading some old news
stories of a teacher I used to work with. It’s funny how I ended up
here from that. This teacher was convicted and sentenced to five years
on various sexual misconduct charges with several of his students. This
was not the only incident at my school. The long-term sub, who was a
former UNLV football player, in the room right across the hall from me,
murdered three of his own family members. The husband of our school’s
secretary was murdered. I can go on for pages about all the student
incidents. Education is unfortunately not important here. My students
knew that they could park cars at the resorts and make more money than
I did as a teacher. My stripper neighbor, oops, I mean “dancer”
neighbor made more than me in less than two months of weekend work than
I did in an entire year. Las Vegas has to be the only place in the
world where that is possible.
I gave in to many of the temptations of that city the first year and even after going back to being myself the following two years, I developed the hatred for Las Vegas that many talk about on this forum. I swore to my fellow teachers that when my third year was up, I would have my moving van in the parking lot the last day of school. On the last day of school on my third year, my co-workers couldn’t stop laughing when they pulled in to the faculty parking lot and saw my big ass yellow Penske truck. Moving though, gave me mixed feelings as I found myself missing my close friends and my church. I don’t know if I can go back just for my friends. They all want to move eventually too.
On a more comic note, specifically about the drivers, do any of you remember an accident a few years ago somewhere on the western part of the 215 (I don’t remember between which exits) where a pickup doing more than 100mph crashed into the backyard of one of the houses that lines the 215. For any of you who have driven the western portions the 215 will note a few things, for example: the steep slope of melon-sized boulders between the 215 and the houses, the distance between the 215 and the houses, and the height of that slope of boulders between the 215 and the houses. How the hell does someone pull that off? Well, a Las Vegas driver did. The truck landed on its wheels by the way. And, just yesterday here in Houston, a driver nearly sideswiped me because she wanted to go around another car and when I honked, she flipped me off. Where were the plates from? Yep, Nevada, with a Findlay dealership license plate bracket. All I could do was laugh…
Las Vegas is like some of my students were, simply unwilling to change.

My only
suggestion for the detention job guy is-don't do it. You'll be
sorry, especially in that line of work. Give yourself a chance, you can
get that job somewhere else. Good Luck.
I was here
just recently on a (blessedly) short vacation.
It was the worst vacation of my life. Thank God it was only a couple of days. I was bored to tears a day in.
My companions all turned into a bunch of drunken snobs.
I almost literally kissed my driveway when I returned.
This place is a Bermuda Triangle of filth and decay, sucking good people in and destroying lives.
I will NEVER return here and I wouldn't live there if someone gave it to me. It is a stinking cesspool, a digusting unwashed armpit of a city.

Hi all. I
was going to take that detention center job in Vegas BUT I
just got an offer from WY and am going there instead. However, I am not
judging Vegas, I guess it just to big for me and I want to live in a
town with less then a million people! I have talked to to some folks
that like it there and some that don't. Anyways, I will fly to Vegas
once or twice a year and have fun doing that....Thanks everyone.
Obviously
the wrong question for THIS particular site.. But if anyone

following..

All of you
whiners please leave. The city would be better off getting
rid of a bunch of crybabies complaining its hot. You moved to the
desert morons. Of course its hot. You moved to a world tourist
destination, so of course there is traffic and friends showing up
wanting to stay with you. Go move to hicksville if you want no traffic
and take your bigotry with you.
maby this
idiot should read the post before leaving his comments and by
the way most of us have left las vegas 3rd world craphole
"All of
you whiners please leave." Ah there's one of the typical Vegas
dicks that I miss so much. Enjoy your economic collapse asshole. I
laugh every time I think of all you shit stains losing your houses or
the hundreds of thousands of dollars of equity that have just vanished
on you. Yes, I am literally laughing right now.

I have
several friends that live in Las Vegas. Both believe Vegas is
only what you make of it. JUst like any other city. I kinda have to
agree with them. As for BWaa.......that statement is really dumb.

That's the dumbest statement I have ever read. Vegas is anything but "like any other city". It's a desolate shit hole filled with servants, whores and con-men. It's a place so devoid of decency that even the animal shelter is a scam. What Vegas is suffering through right now is pure unadulterated KARMA! And by the way, I did get a life. It began the day I watched that congregation of self centered greedy little assholes fade in the rear view mirror.

Las Vegas
is just like any other large city, you like or you don't.
It's more about your attitude than anything else. I believe MR BWAAA,
that you have overstated the promblems.
Vegas- the
most overrated city on the planet. I've been there a couple
of times for work/conventions, and each time I wonder what the big deal
is.
I imagined as a child a city full of wonderfully dressed, beautiful people- like a James Bond movie set in Monte Carlo. Boy, was I ever in for a shock! Drunken, classless fools, throwing money at everything in the pursuit of "entertainment." I have to go there for work next week, so i am staying at a hotel far away from the strip.
I like the outdoors, even the desert, but that place would get to me real quick. What a dump!
